Recruiting Momentum

Recommended Posts

As a mod you should probably not even post. To me a mod should monitor decorum and etiquette and above all remain objective. To tell posters to grow some is demeaning and insulting. The problem with forums is some folks will insult others here but pee their panties if they were face to face.

I'll say it then. Grow a pair. Jeeze. These guys have created a place for us all to discuss IU basketball and receive valuable information you may not find elsewhere. If someone calls you out, defend your position. If the mods started banning people they disagreed with, or censoring people, that'd be an actual issue.

For one time I would love for an answer on what would fix IU not begin with "back in IU glory days..." The smartest universities are forward thinking. The ones who win recruiting battles for 17 year olds doesn't begin with a pitch of a title close to 30 years ago. If that is the best we have to offer then no wonder we have no momentum... Remember Bob Knight? He coached here. The same 17 year old kid would say who? They were in diapers when his tenure ended. So, Hoosiernation. How about some forward thinking?

So we offer the kid stardom, women, NBA, starting time, ESPN. If it weren't for the 'glory' days, you'd have nothing to complain about. There would be no expectation of greatness, just a group of Varsity Club members asking why we aren't getting more for their buck! I still say that times may change, good coaching doesn't, if you can't handle the fact that the object of the game is still to get the ball through the hoop more than your opponent, the food network could use a new moderator for its cookie blog!

From 6 to 10 to 12 wins in three years at Indiana, so how difficult is it to improve on that? A 117-103 total record including a horrible 46-71 Big record. That's a .393 win % in conference and 4 out of 7 losing seasons only if we don't collapse this year like last. Just open your eyes to what it is instead of hoping for what its not. Crean's not letting others make the coaching decisions like he did at Michigan Stateanymore.

Hey he brought up the whole tenure and lack of improvement. Has he not improved from year 1 to 7?

as a fanbase, we can't have it both ways. Either we didn't want him or he didn't want us. Simple as that. My point is, the fanbase wants to say we didn't take Lyle because of his history. I think there is more to it. He didn't want us. IU is obviously willing to take personality gambles if we are recruiting Dillard.

For the record, with transfers being as prevalent as they are, I am willing to take some calculated gambles here and there.

Of course he didn't want IU. That's my point. Not everything is an IU/Crean failure.

Lmao now that was funny. Oh and that 17 year old is still laughing at you and headed to UK or UL. I would love to mod on the food network.

It's 2015. 2015!!!!! The kids we are trying to recruit don't have a clue who Tom Coverdale is let alone Alan Henderson or Keith Smart. The fans that think tradition should make IU a top 5 program year in and year out are fooling themselves.

College basketball changed significantly in the mid 90's due to the grassroots basketball structure shifting from HS to AAU and IU is still adjusting for some reason...

if the little ...... Is going to choose UK, we don't wAnt him anyhow. Reread my original post on recruiting, cookie! Ha Ha!

Ha I would love to be a mod there. At least some old bastards would realize their recipe from 30 years ago isn't quite what they thought it was.

So wrong on all levels since you deny history of a successful program has no place in it's future. Do Alabama recruits know Bear Bryant and their titles? How about UK and the racist Rupp? Hell, Bobby Knight just threw a chair and you think he doesn't matter moving forward? No wonder you're happy with Crean. Do you know any of our championship coaches and do you really deny it matters when we are talking what matters most? Does everyone on your team get a trophy...I mean a sweet 16 ring?

you're right, tradition doesn't play a part in any college program. Michigan, Duke, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Alabama, etc.., the heck with tradition. Let's change the name to what's happen in' U., it's all the same. Let me tell you, sonny, the real problem with recruiting today comes from a mindset that says, 'we need to get ...' Instead of, we'd like to get ... The difference is that IU has more to offer an athlete than that athlete can EVER offer IU.

Top coaches make a top 5 program. The tradition of winning championships just make it that much easier to get there. When you can't do it going on 8 years its never going to happen. Who's fooling who?

So worthy of the 3.5 million he's paid kind of improvement. Damn, with this level of success Painter must be worth 10 million a year.

This has been a problem for the last 10 or more years. For years, IU had networks built with coaches within the state, not so much anymore. IU abandoned that approach and went looking outside first in many sports and lost some very good athletes in the process. I'm not a Wilson fan, but he is rebuilding that network.
