Glass Stance Solid with Coach Crean

Recommended Posts

What I find amusing about his 87 quote when I was also a student was he left out the 81 and 76 championships that were right in front of 87. I can promise you we never looked back at the Slick Leonard team like how he phrases it. Of course he has to defend his contract to the bitter end more than Crean. 8 years in our athletic director still wants to discuss Crean's first three years as a forever pass on not winning big. Plus, how he states the exact reasons we choked against Syracuse seems right out of the excuse handbook some right here have used. Its been forever so we can't win it. Hulls had a bad wing so we can't win it. Fisher leaves so we can't win it. He will keep making excuses for his poster boy until he gets run out of town also. His attorney speak I find condescending personally. Especially since he got to experience something he has yet to come close to deliver for other students. His comparing us to bluebloods is crap when he doesn't expect the same results and would never admit he made a big mistake with an unforgiveable contract. He had to have been a much better attorney.

Some real truths in that piece.

Another year of bellyaching, another year of Indiana contending in the B1G with one of the most powerful offenses in the country. That's 3 out of 4 years if you're counting at home.

The speculation from November was utterly stupid at the time and even more so now... if anyone seriously thinks Crean/Glass/IU are lowering the bar, look closer.

A lot depends on what happens over the remainder of this season on and off the court.  In order to contend for conference titles and Final Fours you have to be consistent in the B1G and making at least making it to the Sweet 16.  I know a top 3-5 finish in the B1G is not good enough for some but it's where we're at right now.  If we can finish in the top 4 this season that's pretty solid.

My expectations are annually finishing in the top 3-5 of the B1G, with a conference banner every 3-4 years.  That puts us in the NCAA tourney every year and opportunities to get to the Sweet 16 and beyond.  The more you get to the Sweet 16 the more opportunities you have at Final Fours (duh!).  I understand the team, entire team to include coaches, will have a down year here and there.

Coach Crean is know dummy and I believe he is capable of getting some of that done.  I'm not sold he can consistently get it done but it appears Glass and the people making the decisions will give him more time.  2 of the last 3 seasons have yielded a top 5 B1G finish and Sweet 16s.  Finish this season strong and maybe make a run in the tourney with momentum going into next season.  I truly believe we are one big away from making serious noise.

I want to lump us with the blue bloods but our image was faded. And now we're tied for 2nd in the conference with a broken roster. IU has finally put a stamp back on college basketball. As far as I'm concerned, people need to realize we have damn good but not elite coach right in front of us. Just enjoy actually being relevant for a few years in a row. That is something we haven't been able to say in 20 years outside of the 02 run.

Yea Glass is blowing some smoke but he also is making a lot of great points. Crean has me back on his side with what he has done with this roster this year.

the big just started so I am not counting this season yet. We may finish where we were projected for all we know. The bar hasn't been raised to high either so lets not get to carried away

No one's getting carried away. It's simply a fact that many here expected our record to be reversed or close to it at this point.

A win tonight would be huge. Look at the remaining schedule.

I am fine with him going down with the ship if that is what it takes to get rid of the problem. Sweet 16's don't cut it in Indiana basketball just look at the quote from Crean when he got here and it explains it all "This is Indiana"

Reading those excuses and explanations is sickening. I NOW know his standards are lower than mine for IU basketball.

Maybe IU isn't truly an Elite program, and the sooner I come around to the fact we aren't Duke, Kansas, UNC, etc. the better it'll be for me.

Dont give up so easy, Wayne. I dont want to be the only one on here fighting such low standards..

You can lower the bar for the sake of Tom Crean or you can raise the bar for the sake of Indiana basketball.  I know which side I prefer to be on, the program is bigger than Crean.  I stand by what I've said before, we have everything we need to win at the level we should expect all we need is the right coach.

Crean just had a press conference with the media, just to preview the Rutgers game...

Tom Crean is here. He starts off by saying that Luke Zeller’s son, almost 2, is here and that IU is making its recruiting pitch to him.

Tom Crean is here for his pre-Rutgers availability, jokes that he was upstairs recruiting Luke Zeller's son.

I'll admit that was a good one sir.
