Blackmon One and Done?

Recommended Posts

When I compare him to our last guard one and done in E Gordon, Blackmon isn't even close. Blackmon can shoot but not as well as Gordon. He can't drive, dribble, or play defense like Gordon. He's not even close to what Gordon was as far as strength. JB's has the tools to probably get there, but certainly not this year or next. He's got a long ways to go. Plus he may not possess the overall quickness you see at the next level. He sure loves to shoot, but if he leaves this year it woukd be to play overseas with Jordan.

Call me crazy, but is he a first rounder right now? Funny thing is, Yogi and Stan think they are. Gosh, I hope they go "pro" after this year.

Out of all of our players Troy has the next level body. I'm just really disappointed that his shot hasn't improved to what I thought it woukd be after hearing this 10,000 shots story. He still needs to learn to hit freethrows. Yogi has the body but his decision making in year three is still bad. He still goes 1 on 5 although I blame that more on the crappy system and coach he plays for. He over penetrates like most of the team which leads to turnovers most of the time. Stan puts his head down and won't pass once he penetrates. He could be our best defensive guard but you can watch him on the offensive end and see he plays half as hard on d. Just like all but a couple on the team.

You guys are delusional. No one needs to be a complete player to get drafted. The NBA uses the D-League more like minor league baseball than they used to. Teams will take higher ceiling players and let them develop.

Blackmon is easily good enough to go late first. If he improves this year, lottery isn't out of the question.

Blackmon's a lottery pick and you call us delusional? Other than his set shot, what skills do you see that I'm missing that makes him a lottery?

BGleas nailed it. JBJ has got the shooting, but plenty of flaws. He's nowhere near ready defensively, his ball handling isn't up to par, and most importantly he's too small to play the 2 at the next level, so he will need to prove he can play the point first. He won't get that chance until his junior year when Yogi leaves, which is why I see JBJ staying at least 3 years. Same as Yogi, his size will be the cause of him going to college all 4 years (not that I'm complaining).

I don't think so. He has yet to play a truly good team with anywhere close to elite athleticism or NBA type skill. His shot was taken away by EW.

He is very good. Even great but he has a ways to go. He's the closest thing to an NBA player on our team but the Jury is still way out.

Not saying he can't get there but he needs to be dominant against kenpom 1-30 not kenpom 300-370.

I don't think some of our fans understand how hard it is to be a first round pick after one year.

All Blackmon has shown is that he can shoot, and he's done it against horrible teams. This isn't like Vonleh where the scouts take a look at his body and wingspan and pencil him into the lottery. Blackmon has a long way to go to even be considered for the first round.

Offensively yes, but height, strength and D ability say not yet. Honestly my concern right now is if there is a coaching change can the next guy keep JBJ, RJ, ect here.

If the Mike Davis debacle taught us anything it is that we should not allow potential player defections drive a decision.
