No Holt?

Recommended Posts

I agree--IUBud.   I expect to see Holt against Lamar too.

Reading Crean's comments he seemed to say SMU was not a good first game for Holt and that he will help us on the court this year. I think Crean wants to bring him along slowly---but I hope we start doing so sooner rather than later!

I find it hilarious that there tends to be this jump to personal offense when criticizing any part of the team...I am not saying Hanner is a horrible person just because he is just not that great at his position....Lets have some perspective. We have Holt and April sitting on the bench with scholarships..They were brought in late because they were supposed to be ready to jump right in and contribute. If that is not the case, then maybe Crean should do some evaluation of his recruiting process. Are we going to have another Jurkin or two? Holt's awesome wingspan does us no good on the bench unless we are going for most impressive clapping from the bench award....

Dude you need to chill out.  You say Holt and April were brought in late because they were supposed to be ready to jump right in and contribute.  LOL that's news to me.  They're Freshman bro, we've already got 2 in the starting lineup.  April will not play many minutes if at all.  This was Holt's first game.  They're not the Fab 5!

Maybe a combination of things here but I'd say, mainly, your expectations were too high.

I realize there was talk about him coming in and contributing "right away" (as in his first game ever I suppose you took that as) but he is a freshman who missed the summer, missed the Canada trip, missed the exhibitions, and missed the first two games. Crean was clearly not comfortable enough with Holt's experience level to place him in this level of a game. And looking at it from a "how could he have done worse" perspective isn't a perspective most CBB coaches subscribe to, imo.

You'll see him tomorrow and can make judgements on him then.

You da man Pap, you da man.

Whats the deal here? I remember the countless articles, board posts concerning this kid and how he would come in and immediately be a player...he sat like April...Hanner is obviously going to be ineffective in the Big Ten and we are not bringing Holt in to spell him, AT LEAST? Hartman is better than Holt at this point? Someone make me understand....We barely survived against an SMU that is nominal at best and without its best player...Holt should be getting some time...

You are spot on. Holt was enrolled at a prep school for this year before IU threw a scholarship at him in August. Remember his best offers were from low major schools in the northeast. He is more developed than April, but he isn't someone who can be counted on for major minutes. He's not that talented of a freshman.

When I played, the first stat our coach would bring up at halftime and post game was deflections. We constantly were hearing about whether our deflections were up to par or not.

sorry folks, but a woman must get the last word in!  Evidently Louisville was not have a great offensive night last night, but Ricky P. was very impressed with his teams 41 deflections ;)

This! Holt is likely a little green still. Be happy CTC recognized that and didn't throw the kid to the wolves last night... Imagine the mini meltdowns on here if Holt had played and gotten embarrassed in some way or made a crucial turnover. Here's to Holt getting his feet wet against Lamar, and hopefully alleviating a lot of our interior woes!

This!

I don't think anybody said this, or thought this.  At all.

The kid had offers from just about every mid-major school you've never heard of, and we realized he wasn't going to come in and be Noah Vonleh in rebounding.

Saying we went with smaller lineups last night is like saying we decided to wear our white jerseys last night. I think the implication that there was a choice to be made is a little misleading.

Just saying what Crean said in his post game press conference.

If We had Devin'S Toughness last night,
We win the game. He is the one player we need the most. Hanner is not the guy!

I agree that DD would help us much more than Mascara-Perea (stolen-but love it) but DD is not a 5 and can't defend 6'9" or bigger guys in the post either. We were doomed either way.

DD could have calmed Vanky Jois down though, I think.
