I don't think we were at the same game. Not sure what you were expecting...

The first 18 minutes was worse than watching a 2A consolation game. Even though it got better, in the 2nd half there were multiple 2 minute stretches where we looked totally lost on D. If it wasn't for all of the touch fouls, we lose that game. Nearly dead even stats other than FT. The entire offensive plan was to run right at them and hope for a foul, or have NZ or JBJ score. I expected more from HMP, Yogi, and Rojo.

I don’t know what is normal, but this sounds fairly serious. I am wondering if we’ll see DD this season or if this will require a redshirt season.

I hate to hear that. Obviously, when it comes down to it, there are more important things in life than basketball. I truly wish Devin well.

I've been involved for about 15 years on an IU-centric email list. One of the members mentioned this site in a Twitter post. I figured it couldn’t hurt to look. My biggest fear was the cruft that is Peegs or Scout. Thankfully, it is nothing like those places.

That's not necessarily true.  I have a coworker that is going through speech therapy.  If you didn't know his story, and looked past the hearing aids, you wouldn't know there was anything wrong.  Oddly enough, there is a lot more to speech therapy than verbal communication. 

 

I have had 10+ concussions.  I feel the affects of it at a young age.  Many of my coworkers have had TBIs, although slightly different than how Devin had his.  TBI's affect people in different ways.  I've had coworkers that were in the same accident, right next to each other, and have had different outcomes. 

 

The most hopeful information I've seen is that he was playing Uno and winning.

I was at the game tonight. I'm not surprised to find people posting negative outtakes from the game, because thats usually what happens here. I thought we played a great game. The first half was very slow and hard to watch but everyone got the jitters out and the shots started to fall. I saw a lot of promising things. Of course it is the first game and we didn't play a very good team but things looked good.

Blackmon Jr is going to be a beast and he is going to be our leading scorer this year. I wouldn't be surprised if he averaged 18-20ppg. He can score in a number of ways. He had a pretty emphatic dunk tonight.

Zeisloft is very smart with the ball. He knows what to make the extra pass. He does well at letting others drive and hits shots when they kick it out. I kept having flashbacks to last year when Etherington would pass up open three after open three. If we would've had Zeisloft last year, we would've won a few more games.
Rob Johnson's shot wasn't falling, but there were times in the game where he was unstoppable on the drive. He seems like when he wants to get to the bucket and score, no one can stop him. He has a lot of good moves at the bucket. 
Yogi looked great. He made a lot of great passes. I agree with an earlier post that I think at times he forgets that he doesn't have to do it all like he did last year. That will change fast. I think one great thing for Yogi this year is that he drives so well and is able to pass so well that people will back off him, then he can hit the deep ball.
Hanner-He still looks a little nervous. They don't really go to him down low. His main offense is going to be getting rebounds and putting them back up, which he did several times tonight. He had 4 turnovers, but a few of those were because he didn't receive a very good entry pass. You can see the potential starting to break out in this kid. He skied for rebounds, but I think there are still timing issues like when to actually jump for the rebound. I think as the season goes on he will feel even more comfortable. He had 10 points and 11 rebounds. I thought that was a great stat line for him. If he can do that 75% of the games, we will be a darn good team.

I disagree with a previous poster that without the fouls we would've love. Northwood actually got a break with the fouls that were called. Their players were riding our guys up and down the court. Yogi was getting mugged most of the game. I thought our guys did a great job of drawing fouls. Hanner especially was great at drawing fouls down low. 
I know it was just an exhibition but the things I pointed out are the positives I saw from the game. At the start of the second half we ran ALOT. Seemed like Crean told the players to go for the jugular and we ran Northwood to death for a good stretch. The offense looked a bit stale at times, but this was the longest the team has probably played just yet, so I think we looked pretty good for that. I love the potential we have this year. Lots of driving and kicking out for an open three this year! 

Scoring will not be the problem it was last year

Someone mentioned Dylan Langkabel in another thread somewhere. He was 5-5, 3-3 on 3s and had 13 pts in 13 minutes. Damn efficient. Without watching game, sounds like that kid needs more play!

I would not look for Davis the entire season with such a significant shock to his body to include possible brain and other trauma perhaps not yet fully discovered.  It would take a leap of faith to think the medical team would give him clearnce for the rigors of Big 10 play.

IMO the fact Yogi was not the high scorer was a real positive plus 4 players in double figures.  Nothing against Yogi but if he's not the high scorer then it means we're moving the ball and keeping defenses off-balance.

How about those free throws? 81% overall with a strong load being carried by JBJ and Z both with 10/10 at the stripe. Those are the guys I want at the line in crunch time. 

 

Colin - great to see the guy getting in the mix for boards. It's another element to have confidence coming out of the injury and not be shy with it. He is another smart player that I like having around and he will be good for the occasional 3. Safe player, is better put.

 

So Nate Richie's play was actually pretty impressive in  my opinion. He actually ripped past a defender around half court for that slam. That showed a lot of confidence that you typically won't have from a walk on. He is going to be serviceable. Athletic, confident walk ons, I like it.

The offensive plan is to constantly drive and create pressure on the D because they will foul. Crean is excellent at creating an initial game plan, and he watches a ton of tape. It wasn't luck that got us 38ish free throws.

Saying DD will never play again is a pretty big assumption.
