IU vs Northwood Post-Game Thread

Post game reaction: zeisloft was impressive, but I don't expect similar production against legit competition. He demonstrated great leadership and knowledge on the floor though and that's significant in itself.

Hanner started slow but played decently. I'm hoping he improves as the season goes on. I wasn't impressed but he showed a bit of promise. In the beginning he let tons of opportunities to get boards slip but he got progressively more physical. I wish we had more serviceable bigs.

JB2 and RoJo were promising. Yogi played decently.

The team will take a while to get into rhythm but it was honestly miles ahead of where I thought they'd be. Granted, it's just one exhibition against sub pat competition, but I'm cautiously optimistic

After the game, Crean said Devin has a traumatic brain injury that is causing serious brain issues.

If there is nerve damage to the brain, it can take a while to know if it is permanent. Playing this season is very unlikely. Let's just pray that he will recover. God bless him and his family.

So I didn't get watch the game. What did the offense look like? Were the guys actually running some offensive sets or were we just scoring due to superior talent?

Our guards are good, and we are deeper at that position than I thought.  Blackmon, Johnson, and Yogi are all scoring machines despite long range shots from Yogi and Crossroads not falling tonight, and Z can score too.  Offense showed some decent ball movement at times, and we protected well too.  Yogi is a lot better when he has help scoring points.  Hanner needs help catching the ball.  The game got sloppy at times.

Crean's dribble drive should offer plenty of opportunities for our athletic guards and forwards to score in many ways, but don't expect this offense to look like a Bobby Knight offense.  It's not going to do that.  This offense in the half court is about spacing and forcing a 1-on-1 matchup with kickout options based on the defense collapsing around a drive, or a 3 PT taken if the defender sags.  This season isn't going to become a game-by-game diary of genius chess moves wherein the coach articulates newly scripted sets on the fly and our offense understands and executes those new sets, wrecking every plot a good defense throws in our way.  The Crean offense is good, and we can usually score under Crean, but the Crean offense is vanilla.  Crean isn't rewriting the fundamentals for a new era of basketball.  He is coaching the dribble drive offense.

Ok so maybe I was too positive going in...this looked like a big h school basketball game. I actually fell asleep with 2 or so to go in the half. Hanner needs to have the ball in his hands at all times on campus and have to run if he drops it, he had at least 6 hit his hands like a brick. Yogi was just running around aimlessly. Rojo was a mason. Nz needs to step up the d. Scary, very scary. Other than the 2 blocks and the banked 3 by MSB, and JBJ I was disappointed.

Sorry for the spread out posts- things keep popping in my head. Yogi is a great facilitator- you can see he still is trying to learn he doesn't have to do all the scoring. He's wicked quick. Hanner's game crept up on me. For awhile, he was just kinda there. But, you could see him getting in position and getting comfortable. He had some physical play w #44- that seemed to pump him up. JB2- just a stud- can't wait to watch him expand his game. He and Yogi play off each other well. Nick Z has a lot to offer, but I like the intangibles the best. Those are the things you can't quite put your finger on. Rojo is smooth and passionate. He's pretty green still, but the amount of talent and potential is scary. He will develop nicely. It was a nice surprise to see Hartman moving fluidly. He is much more aggressive than he was pre-injury. He's everywhere on the floor. Burton and Ritchie are (or were tonight) serviceable for giving a breather. Neither will lead us in stats, but both have heart and ability. Finally, Priller is a total fan favorite and a spark plug. He has an awkward run which makes him seem slow, but he held his own. A little confidence will do him wonders.

I don't think we were at the same game. Not sure what you were expecting...

I love our 4 guards!!! In all honesty to be competitive against top competition I think we need Troy and Holt.

Although, very Glad to be represented by the guys on the floor!! JB is my man! Enjoyed watching him through his HS career and nice to see it translate to the college game. I'm sure he'll have his lumps but tonight was encouraging.

Going to be easy to root for Rob! Always liked Yogi. Still looking forward to the "Flamethrower"!

Win or lose, I am so damn glad it's CBB season.

First huge thanks and shoutout to Alabaster Hoosier for hooking me up with the free tix right under the conference banners. Great seats and my wife and I had an awesome date night because of your kindness. Very thankful to you for that!
Just got home from the game and I don't know I can add a lot more that has already been covered. JBJ is a flat stud and went 10/10 on freebies. Nick z, hel-freaking-lo buddy! Awesome exchange at the end of the game with Crean and Z. U can tell they are fond of eachother. Probably makes him feel like a shade of Hulls is around again.
+Z is the undeniable leader
+Hanner ripping a 18 footer
+that oops from yogi to hanner
+let the 3's rain
+Burton is bigger than I thought
-people a little lost on O
+z and JBJ free throw
+yogi is beyond quick
+Rojo is young but ready
-team did not crash boards as much as I would like
+no one is out jumping hanner for boards
