RaceToTheTop Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 I didn't see the Illinois/Northwestern game. I know that Underwood wasn't happy with the free throw differential (game ended with 40 Northwestern fts to 10 for Illinois)......for those that watched the game, how was the game called and did Underwood have a gripe? He seemed to be talking out of both sides of his mouth, saying once 'we were down 26-0 before we left the locker room' but then later saying that he liked the Illini defense 'when they weren't fouling'. Went to an Illini forum and despite the free throw difference, there really wasn't that much complaining about it.....basic feeling was that all Illinois does on offense is have five guys stand behind the arc and just look for threes. From a biased perspective, it sounded like he was taking a jab at the officiating. He made some other comments during the game about it. I didn’t watch the game closely but it was a typical Big 1.o home cooking officiating. Quote
woodenshoemanHoosierfan Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 TJD posting that Tim Weaver letter indicates 3 things to me. 1. Our athletic department is immature and ridiculous.2. Our team isn’t going to win anything big until our focus is on the court and wins and losses. It’s such an Indiana thing to demean our program every opportunity we can. 3. Tim Weaver is a jerk. Never pay attention to Jerks. Their opinion doesn’t mean a thing. Sent from my iPad using BtownBannersAmi missing something? Sent from my SM-S908U using Tapatalk Quote
woodenshoemanHoosierfan Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 And in BFE Indiana would you rather see BFE High play a basketball game or go to Broadway?Heck, in New York, I'd rather see a HS basketball game than Broadway Sent from my SM-S908U using Tapatalk Ryno6284 1 Quote

He was right Illinois needed to stop fouling I thought the officiating was fine no different then the any of the other games i watched last night. Illinois on defense has seemed to went back to the when he first started in the league and hacking everyone they can and see if they don’t call it. Illinois has bigger problems than fouling or the foul differential. They need to figure some things out quickly. If any team wants to whine about foul differential on the road it’s UConn. last night Providence was 29-35 while they were 10-19 and the game before Xavier was 23-29 and they were 4-9. Stuhoo 1 Quote

Freshmen guards tend to foul a lot. On Illinois, Harris and Epps are overly aggressive freshman, and Skyyyyyyy Clark is a slowwwwww-footed freshman. So they accounted for a combined 11 fouls in 51 minutes. That's 8.6 fouls per 40 minutes. For the season? Clark is at 4.6 fouls per 40 minutes, Epps is at 2.7 fouls per 40 minutes, and Harris is at 4.0 fouls per 40 minutes. That's 11.3 fouls per 40 minutes, and is an extraordinarily high number. In fact, they fouled way below their combined average last night, they just played a few more combined minutes than usual. For reference, IU's three best/most aggressive guard defenders; X, JHS, and Gallo's foul rate per 40 is about 40% lower at 8.0 per 40 combined. Matthew Mayer also picked up five fouls, because he's the Toby Flenderson of college basketball and therefore sucks because he is. IUc2016 and Uspshoosier 2 Quote

The good: 3-1 in quad 1 and 2. The bad? 2 losses to quad 4 teams. Brad Brownell better have a good year with the Tigers. Quote
