I like the B1G getting some west coast schools but given the growth in the south they’d be crazy to add schools like FSU or even Clemson.

I think the Big Ten is aiming for Duke and North Carolina, while the SEC wants Clemson, Florida State, and Miami.

Conference realignment will ruin college sports. Period. Moves made by greed. It's not about trying to make a better product. Only greed. Greed will kill it.

Already well on the way to being ruined. Many seem to think that it's inevitable, but why? It makes more money in the short term with no regard for the sustainability of the sports. If the schools on the West coast couldn't make a viable conference, how are USC and Rutgers in the same league gonna survive? Spoiler alert, they aren't. 'Super conferences' are stupid and will fail.

That very well may be what happens.  Change is inevitable.  Not always for the better.

These changes are reactions to the failed NCAA, the rise of student-athletes not being taken to the cleaners, sports marketing, and television/cable/streaming, and cheating for $$$$.   Just looking at the stupidity of the seeding for the football bowl championship playoffs year after year gives me heartburn. Only the Alabamas and OSUs like that crap.

Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.  Good luck to the confederation of universities (at the top and those that don't have $$$$ that are being left behind) that are trying something...anything to fix what is broken.  It is and will be a mess.

Basically this. The NCAA can no longer really sustain itself as the one-stop shop governing body. The “super conferences “ are just  filling the power vacuum left by the NCAA and supercharged by live sports revenue (boosted by streaming killing off cable).

Things will look a lot like the past just with the SEC and B1G dictating terms to the NCAA. And at this point the SECBIG coalition is shaping up to be about ~40 of the historical 50-60 teams that were major conf participants anyways.

It’ll look different from afar but the games will be the games.

Sure the games will be the games. But somebody has to lose. And the bottom will get WAY WORSE.

I think im the next 10 years we will see the power football teams breaking away and forming a league similar to the NFL. Probably 25-50 top revenue teams will leave  the NCAA all together. Have no idea what will happen to the other sports at those programs.

At least it's good to be one of the schools in the super conference rather than out, but God it's miserable knowing how and why we're becoming a bloated monster.

Yep. I’ve said it before but IU should thank it’s lucky stars we’re in one of the two conferences that are ahead of the game.

On our own we’re terrible at football and are a mediocre basketball team (although historically great). That’s a recipe for getting left out. UNC and Kansas are, at least, currently high profile basketball programs and they’re potentially in danger of being left out in the rain. They look like they’ll both make it into a good situation, but nothing is guaranteed.

We’re a historical member of the B1G and the B1G has been the most savvy conference in the tv regard the last decade-plus. We’re fortunate, imo.

It's literally just becoming ESPN/SEC vs FOX/B1G
