Just arrived at a restaurant to meet friends for dinner and caught the tail end of a bunch of flagrant fouls and technicals in the 2nd half. What happened? Quote
hoosierdogg Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 Didn't see the game either until very end. West Liberty called for 4 flagarant fouls, including a flagarant 2, with 3 of those in the second half, as well as the two technical fouls late in the second half. It must have been very chippy, didn't know it was on, but wished I had known. Sounds like pure entertainment, with the highest scoring national championship game at any level. Quote
tkbbn Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 Very chippy and fast paced game. Lots 3pt shooting of course. Intentional elbow on a free throw resulted in flagrant 2 and ejection. Was an easy call for the official. After this the officials started calling the game a lot closer. Free throw shooter said something to opposing player and was called for a technical, seemed like a benign situation but obviously couldn't see what he said but official didn't hesitate. Pretty exciting game but looked like aau. Class of '66 Old Fart 1 Quote

Their problem is that their two (really 3 coaches if you see Williams as an extension of Dean) iconic, all-time programs just retired forever coaches. Those guys single handedly recruited more talent to that conference than the rest of the ACC and B1G combined. I’ve always kind of thought UNC recruited itself. We’ll see where they go from here. I feel confident saying their next couple decades won’t be as bad as Indiana’s. We are an all-time cluster-@&$# when it comes to this topic. I’d wager on 1 of those 2 schools figuring it out and raising the ACC back up. Banksyrules, lillurk and HoosierAloha 3 Quote

I’d wager on 1 of those 2 schools figuring it out and raising the ACC back up. From the meetings, the commissioner said he felt that the committee focused too much on NET and not enough on eye test. Also said he felt they focused too much on non-conference and not enough on conference play. There are a couple of issues with what he says: 1. If you are trying to measure the conference as a whole against other conferences, you have to go with non-conference play. Seems pretty difficult to raise or conference compared to others based on them playing against themself. 2. It's not so much that the committee focuses on November v February/March -- it's that a team raising its profile in conference play likely causes another team in your conference to lower theirs. You aren't going to typically see a conference be a three bid league based on what teams have accomplished prior to conference become a six bid league afterwards. The floor and ceiling is pretty much set before league play begins. One thing I do agree with is his thoughts that 20 conference games might be too much. I'd prefer 18. With conference tournaments right now teams are getting typically 21-23 games against conference competition. woodenshoemanHoosierfan, hoosierbgh and lillurk 3 Quote
