Stuhoo Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 Illinois? Ooof (part- infinity), as they add a really slow, really big guy who will likely not be able to contribute next year: Illini adding grad transfer big man Adonis De La Rosa Kent State grad transfer big man Adonis De La Rosa is joining the Illini basketball program for the upcoming season, he announced on Monday. Multiple sources confirmed the transfer. De La Rosa was in the process of being admitted to the university last week, and he could arrive on campus as early as this week. The seven-foot, 261-pound center averaged 11.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game last season, while converting 56.4 percent of his field goal attempts and shooting 78.5 percent from the free-throw line. De La Rosa produced seven double-doubles, including an outing of 24 points and 14 boards against Central Michigan in early January. This addition comes with some uncertainty, though, as De La Rosa tore his ACL in March and he is still recovering from surgery. Class of '66 Old Fart 1 Quote

HoosierAloha Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 That little guard having to jump to try and land a punch. Wanna put an end to it? DQ both squads from participating in FIBA events for awhile. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Class of '66 Old Fart and mamasa 1 1 Quote

According to Illinoisloyalty De La Rosa = David Robinson circa 2001 :) Class of '66 Old Fart, MemphisHoosier, Stuhoo and 1 other 2 2 Quote

Brass Cannon Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 So I have been wouldnt would it be an NCAA violation for a booster to pay a coach if a kid doesn’t go to their school? like could a Kansas booster have paid Archie and Drew if Romeo didn’t commit to IU or Vandy Quote

Unless that booster is T Boone Pickens, no amount of booster cash is going to get an opposing coach to pass on a player like Romeo. Archie could be the coach at Indiana for 20 years and that many years of $4mm+ salary is based on getting players and winning games. No coach would ever risk their future like that. It would be career suicide. Apart from the career suicide, coaches exist to win games. At a high level I imagine it’s almost a psychological need to win. Every coach wants to be the one smiling in the handshake line at the end of the game. Archie will be smiling in the handshake line a few more times this season because he has Romeo. Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 So................. Kansas, Duke, UK are seen as top 5 teams this upcoming season and arguably 1-3. Kansas has a player who accepted cash payment on its roster. UK created/earliest to benefit from the shoe company/AAU monster. Duke has Recruit #1,2,3 in the class. Is this NCAA/FBI deal done and resume activities per normal? And if so, Sean Miller is really, really , really lucky as are the other 30 plus cheating butt programs. Romeo was an extreme example. A better example would be a kid torn between his hometown team and a big time program. Quote

Duke and pUKe have elite classes and pUKe has a couple returning talents as well. Gonzaga, Kansas and Nevada are also stacked. Iugradman 1 Quote
