In an exhibition last night, Puredoo was in a single digit game in the fourth quarter before pulling away to win by 16 against Trinity Western, a Canadian team that was 12-12 in the Canadian conference last year. Interesting that a Trinity Western team that has one 6'7" player on their roster went to the line 6 more times than Purdoo, and Purdoo only outrebounded them 41-38.

An understated hole that losing TKR and Smith will create? Those two players got to the line for easy points a ton and their replacements will not.

I think they finally miss the tournament this year

I’ve been hoping PU would fall off in the NIL era, but it hasn’t happened much.  Edey left they were still pretty good, and now they’re losing some more key guys and once again I am hoping.

But Painter’s track record is too good.  Best I can hope for is they’re a borderline top 25 team.  I can live with that, especially since they stink at football.

Is that ogre Cluff back? I recall it being almost a 0% chance but in light of recent news I wouldn't be surprised if he gets another year.

I may have missed news there though.

Nope.

They won’t miss little Smith and Loyer guy as much as they’ll miss TKR and Cliff. They’ve got a bunch of good guards.

Every year, they seem to have a buy-game in November that's unexpectedly close, and we find ourselves hoping that maybe they just aren't as good as the media wants us to think. Then, usually within a week or two, they're beating the brakes off a P-5 team and our fantasies of their demise get derailed once more.

With 5 in 5 now officially a thing, it's been living rent-free in my head for awhile about how they could find a way to bring Loyer and/or Smith back next year. Loyer is more likely because I'm not sure he'll make an NBA roster, though I've read he's been performing well in summer league. Smith is probably going to make the Pacers' roster because they're suckers for local dudes and aren't going to cut a guy they traded into the draft to get.

Some day, they'll suck and I won't forget to appreciate it. Some day...

Except for those years that Painter-led teams finished right around the bottom of the Big Ten standings.

Don’t get me wrong, painter is a good coach. But I’m having trouble seeing how the front line players they’ve assembled will lead to a dangerous team. Since Edey left they’ve been a  disappointment, two years in a row. Not bad, but severely overrated.

I think those years happened when Painter was trying to be someone he's not. He course corrected and they've been a problem ever since. He usually gets a lot out of what he has. I hate all things Purdue but I think Painter is a good dude and if went anywhere else, I wouldn't mind seeing him win a championship. Just NEVER at Purdue.

Pat Kraft is odd guy.  He seems to always be crashing out -- from their long and very messy FB coach fire/hire process (especially with the leaked meeting audio) to a simple question about basketball (below) where he publicly more or less says basketball isn't a priority.

A lot of what he actually says I don't think is actually wrong.  He just seems to go off all the time.  Which, I don't care, it's just interesting.

Surely to God there is some kind of context here.

Kinda stupid to say. Because if you get good you will generate money. Two years ago nobody was writing home about IU football.
