Can see no universe in which that is Schertz’s next move. It’s just not a great job.

I don’t know. I think NC State is pissed and planned to give a lot of NIL to Wade so that’ll transfer over plus some.  It’s not UNC/Kansas but it think it can be in that second tier.

if UNC pulls Lloyd from Arizona which feels oddly possible that be a sad day.  Someone inform me this isn’t gonna happen, please.

Josh Schertz must disagree. I can't imagine interviewing for an open coaching position a week after signing a big contract extension if you're not serious about said position.

S’pose so, and he’s miles smarter than I am, but that’s pretty wild. Schertz’s new deal at SLU is 6/22 with escalators and if you believe the local scuttlebutt his NIL number was bumped to something like 9 mil. Wade’s NC State deal was reportedly 6/19 and he was whining about their NIL budget in his actual intro presser, though it was enough to get Darrion Williams on board. And then you’re never gonna be better than the 3rd program in your state and you’re joining a declining conference. Just don’t see it at all. But if that’s the gig, good for him. I’m sure he’ll do well.

At 9 mil in NIL he might have to think twice about the UNC job. Lol

I honestly think he’s a sneaky candidate for that UNC job if they whiff on everyone. His style is too perfect for them.

Had to post this for the amusement value. That Stevens thing sound familiar? And I don’t buy for a second that any of those guys “have reached out”, though they might listen. See, fanbase coaching lunacy is not confined to this fanbase alone.

He means they haven't officially taken their name out of the conversation.

Any horse farms near Chapel Hill?

IU, Kentucky, and Louisville couldn't hire a "Big Name" coach.  It will be interesting to see who North Carolina can reel in. I would have to believe they had a coach lined up before firing Hubert Davis.  I think Mark Few makes sense, but if he was the man, it would have been announced by now. Since nothing has been announced it most likely a coach who is still coaching. Donovan may be a possibility because I believe his run at the Bulls is nearing an end. However, he may prefer coaching in the NBA.  I don't see Dusty May leaving Michigan for North Carolina since Michigan has similar resources and less pressure.  That would leave Lloyd or Underwood, both of whom would be intriguing choices.

If you're an Arizona fan how are you interpreting this?

He's talking about Arizona's storied past, present, and future in a reverential way.

No way he intended to signal he's leaving right before the Final Four, which would create a huge distraction.

I just can't see why he'd go to UNC.  No ties (in fact he's been out west his whole life) and he already has a program about as good as you can get it.  Coaches just don't seem to leave this sort of situation so they can try to recreate it somewhere else.

My $ is on him leveraging this into a better contract and more NIL.  This may take some time so his name may be out there for awhile with the UNC job.  Arizona is a big school they'll give him whatever he needs.

I guess we'll see.  Goodman is an AZ grad and he said the other day that their financial situation is actually pretty bad.

It’s been out there for a good while that Lloyd’s really had to work hard to keep the NIL numbers at Arizona competitive, though they’ve obviously made it work. Made me wonder during last year’s search if he could be poached though there’s no indication that Dolson tried. If he can be had UNC can do it. But, man, he’s a different dude, and I mean that as a compliment. I’m not sure he can be.

A couple of years ago, the school had a huge (almost $200M) deficit, with athletics being a large part of that. I believe part of the path to stabilizing was requiring the athletic department to be completely self sufficient. I think they might still be operating at a deficit. So yeah, they're struggling financially.
