The prior guys who "got" if were far less prone to post 90 selfies of them and their buddies walking to class.

It's a completely different mindset.

What is everyone's take on Crean's former players tearing this team a new one? Clearly they got it under Crean's watch. He has to go, but at the same time as Verdell said "You can't expect to be babysat." Why did so many players "get it" but all of the sudden it seems only a few do?

Those 2 teams were so good because it was a mix of 3-4 year developed talent and Cody really. After all those guys (Verdell and Roth one year, then Vic, Cody, etc. the next) Crean knew he had to catch up so maybe talent trumped character after our last 2 good years. Then he ended up with younger guys that didn't have senior leadership to keep them from doing dumb (stuff). I don't think the guys here necessarily have character issues, they just make extremely stupid choices. That's how I look at it at least.

Based on what respected posters here have written, I expect more bad news to come.

IU basketball will survive and ultimately thrive after this crisis, but we obviously need to clean house. If that means getting rid of Crean and some of our current players, let it happen. Let a new rebuilding begin. We have the patience to see that through. Having higher expectations and standards for IU is a good thing. It's what differentiates us from the programs we despise. We are certainly not perfect, but we strive to be the best that we can be, on and off the court. We don't settle for less.

With all of the tragic events that have taken place, I'm still trying to grasp onto the little bit of hope that I have for this team. I'm hoping that the reference to the "slap in the face" is exactly what this team needs. We are young, but we are very talented. We still have a great guards and a surplus of shooters that have stayed out of trouble so far this year. I'm holding on to the hope that the current actions that Troy and Stan have taken will make them realize how much this program means to its fans and how much this season means to their coach. I'll admit, I have been a Crean supporter simply because I want it to work out for him, but he needs to make a statement to these boys. Unfortunately, I do not believe the two season game suspension is not taking a stance, but rather, a slap on the wrist.

I'm currently a senior here at IU, and I came here simply because I wanted to watch IU basketball. This program means so much to us. Unless more bad news surfaces, I'm still going to hold on to hope. The bright side is that these events didn't happen during the Big Ten season. There is still plenty of time left for this team to become a tourney team. I say we support those that have worked their tails off and have stayed out of trouble. For those that have gotten in trouble, I say we hope they mature, learn from their mistakes, and support them if/when they improve their behavior.

Maybe this is the absolute slap in the face everyone in the program needed.

Isn't this, like, our fifth or sixth slap? Who here assumed that Perea's arrest would have made these guys clean up their acts a bit? Who here then thought that the first-time positive drug tests during last season would have made them get a little serious? Then, the arrest of Yogi and Stan...shouldn't that have been a wake-up call for players to realize that they need to knock it off? Since THEN we've had at least two more positive drug tests and the Holt/Davis deal. I mean, I'm not above giving people a second chance, but why are we expecting players to react any differently now? And, if they DO finally seem to "get it" after the FOURTH public incident since February, I don't think I'm going to necessarily be applauding their maturity for finally waking up and getting their acts together. We've moved beyond "slaps" and we're into full-on attempted manslaughter now.

To be fair, Perea has stayed out of trouble since his incident. There is word of his improvement as well. I think he finally understands his role. Yogi has also stayed out of trouble since his arrest, but he needs to take the position of leadership. He was the only major contributor on the Big Ten title team that we have. Though Holt may have had a beer or so at that party, I firmly believe he was trying to be responsible as the DD and from word of Devin's careless action, Holt was still at blame. I have sympathy for Holt and I do NOT question his character or appreciation for being a Hoosier. Sadly, I think this incident is the only way to wake these kids up. Stan should probably be kicked off the team, but that's not going to happen. Troy needs to understand that he is putting his potential NBA hopes at risk. I agree, no more slaps. Whatever they do "in-house" as far as punishment, lets hope it leaves an impact.

What I'm most upset about is that I have never had the privilege of having thousands of fans cheer me on or chant my name. I have never had the honor to be apart of something so prestigious that players and coaches have been made gods in this state as a result of it. I have never put on an Indiana uniform. But I seem to care more than the guys who got the privilege of playing at Indiana. Getting wasted the night before a scrimmage for kids who idolize you. Smoking weed when you know you have drug tests and have to improve as a player. Driving drunk the night of a loss. Using a fake ID as the most recognizable person on campus and a leader on this team...a week from your birthday. It seems like they don't even know how to party correctly. There are players on this team who deserve to be here. At my count, about 8 players deserve to be here, including walk ons.
