UNC: Wainstein Report

Recommended Posts

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/sports/wp/2014/10/22/wainstein-probe-implicates-over-3000-students-in-university-of-north-carolina-academic-scandal/

This is textbook "loss of institutional control" which warrants the death penalty. However, because it's UNC it'll probably just result in a slap on the wrist or just the football program taking the fall.

What are everyone else's thoughts?

UNC is an ESPN darling too. Im pretty sure the ESPN's president has some strong UNC ties, might even be a UNC grad. mehhhhh.

This story has been around for almost 2 years now right? Finally getting some traction.  I know that UNC has hired numerous public affair agencies and firms to conduct damage control (whitewashing and diversions).

Honestly, I don't think the NCAA has the cajones to do anything. Relative to the absolute disgusting things that went on at PSU that reached the AD and President, they got a slap on the wrist. PSU can now play in a bowl in fact. They might come down on the football side, but I'm sure Nike and Jordan would have something to say about the basketball side.

Really, really hope the NCAA comes down on them. I just don't see how the could not. Seriously!? Bumper stickers vs false academics/etc...... wonder which one is the bigger offense?

We will find out.

This is the exact same thing Rashaad McCants came out and talked about this last summer and UNC denied it all and even ESPN tried to make McCants look like the bad guy. The NCAA won't end up doing anything. If they do, it won't be anything big, sadly. We have players being suspended because of freakin bumper stickers and UNC makes up fake classes to raise GPA levels and probably nothing will happen

What is the real lesson for us and any university to be learned here. Deny, fight, and fire. Deny that anything happened as Gaddarnit Roy and all his loyal Afro studies players except one has done. Deny all the way to the u president. Fight it with all the high priced attorneys and "unbiased investigators" the good ole UNC can afford. Fire the head of the program as well as the deepthroat chairwoman who ratted those filthy people out. That's the gameplan moving forward against any wrongdoings. What just ticks me off is we self reported freaking extra phone calls that aren't even a violation now and it helped set back our program another decade. It didn't help we had horrendous leadership from the president to athletic director to head coach. If we were UK Sampson would probably still be here since he was winning. I hate UNC almost as much as Uk these days.

Indiana is no longer tied for 3rd most NCAA titles as NC's last two (I'm leaving the university out of their name) are now considered tainted.

I'm not going to get into it right now, but we may have the most untainted titles in NCAA history.

I would say that our titles, even if you only count Knights would be the most .UCLA was rotten to the core and then there's the guys just south of the border.

To put all of this in perspective, the easiest class I had at IU was bowling. Even in that bowling class we had:

2 Quizzes

2 Tests - Midterm and Final

1 Paper

That was for a one credit class that involved....bowling

So you're saying that you're pretty good then?

That's one of my favorite things about IUBB... A clean program.

Even if we have some bad years on the court, it always makes it that much easier for me to deal with when I know that at least we did things the right way and have an ethical/responsible basketball program. Clean-cut might not win us as many titles as we'd like, but i'd have it no other way.

When the Sampson debacle happened, I was actually proud that we self reported it. I can live with what we see on the floor, as long as we do it the right way.
