As of right now, I don't think the staff is recruiting Watford any longer. We will see this summer if that is true. I was told the Watford family called wanting to know why the staff hadn't been down to see him play this year. There was a reason why we haven't. But the family really wants IU to recruit him.

Even if it was prioritization, shouldn't the staff have touched base and visited? Does this speak to where they feel they are with other recruits, or where they think they are with Watford?

Neither. This staff is going to do things a certain way and it's not going to change for anyone

Well.  Shucks.  Thanks for the info.  Sounds like Trendon can really play.  Hard to reconcile why the staff wouldn't pursue a kid with his talents and connections to IU.  Especially since the Watfords are already part of the IU family.

Sounds to me like it's because he's not from Indiana and the indiana guys come first. Good strategy but if a kid as good as him is wanting you to look at him you should look. No guarantees we get Brooks or tjd. Then what?

Has nothing to do with Indiana kids. Just some things didn't feel right. There is a chance that we pick it back up this summer but both family and IU would have to be on the same page.

I think it probably has more to do with the other school that he had shown interest in is Alabama. Alabama also just had a 5 star in Sexton that had eligibility questions because of his recruitment. Would this be along the lines of why IU backed off?

Well given what little information has been provided, if this is true it would lead one to surmise it's either a character issue (doubtful given his family) or he's been potentially "compromised" as a 5*. Just throwing out scenarios for the sake of discussion.

If that's what's going on with Watford then we're going to have to accept that we'll have a ceiling when it comes to recruiting. It will be tough to hang with the blue bloods when they're offering extra benefits. That doesn't mean we can't get back to blue blood status. It will just be more difficult.

I disagree. Not all kids or families are corrupted. You just have to be selective and not miss on the kids that are clean that you do target.

Not all of them are, but it significantly shrinks the size of the recruiting pool, imo. Or, at least that was the case in the past. We'll have to see if the recent FBI scandal makes recruits more hesitant to take the money.

One-and-dones are more often than not a waste of a scholarship. Yes, they help fill gaps, and if you have enough of them you'll most likely get to at least the SW16, but consistency lies with getting 4 stars to stay until their junior/senior year and landing lower-ranked, fringe 5* players who will stay two years. 

Romeo, like Cody, is a special case because it helps with recruiting momentum, particularly in-state. But our potential inability going forward to consistently land multiple 5* every year isn't necessarily indicative of our ability to compete with top teams. Ideally, four stars and the occasional five star to fill a gap will be best for consistency. 

Having said all that, I think this will be a moot point within the next few years because it sounds like one-and-done is coming to an end.
