(2015) PG Harrison Niego to IU

Recommended Posts

Been scouting this kid for 3 years now, star player on his hs team all 3 years. Kids got a great shot, loves to shoot off the dribble, like yogi. Could develop into a valuable player if he puts in the work. He originally committed to Bradley but then decommitted once he was offered as a walkon at iu. Really excited to continue to see him play.

Watched an interview of him on YouTube, seems like a quality guy. He is well spoken. Doubt he's gonna screw around. He is exactly the type of player we need, sorta like Collin Hartman: team player, here for 4 years, seems smart and coachable unlike some of our past pickups (hanner, hollowell, jurkin, abell, Stan), seems like a hard worker, not showy, but will be a solid contributor like Hartman for future iubb teams

Abell was a pretty intelligent player. I think you should replace him with Etherington in your list. I don't really agree with your list at all actually. Hanner has definitely shown improved defensive awareness, and Jurkin was too injured to actually evaluate.

I hope he pursues whatever degree makes the most sense to him and him alone.  I wonder what the world is coming to if we are trying to get our walkons to jeapordize their future career and happiness, just so they can take easier classes and place more focus on basketball.  At this point, he should be more worried about his education than basketball.

Edumacation...we don't need know stinking edumacation...

Does Niego have a nickname?  We have to give him one--right?

How about ---Baby Jordy---since he said he likes Hulls' game!

Or---Niego  El Fuego!

Roll with it Hoosier Nation!

I thought we came to the conclusion that we should never compare current and former players.

Agreed. I still hope he happens to want to pursue a degree that won't require him to give up basketball.

I will never understand why Tom Crean needs 16-18 kids on his bench.  I know for sure the moving parts cost us one big recruit from Indianapolis, and this kid, while okay, is not quick enough to be a quality Big Ten point guard.   Watching his highlights, he's just a guy.   Welcome Niego; but Johnny Marlin had similar offers, and he was a fantastic high school guard.   He even started for a year in college before coming to Indiana, and we saw how that worked out. Walk ons in Crean's program don't generally stick around very long, and he definitely looks more like a 2 than a point, and we're loaded at the 2 next season....he's not making any kind of immediate impact.    Good spot up shooter....who can he guard?  He's not fast or quick.

I guess I don't get the excitement over a walk on who could have gone to a MAC school and been a bench player for a while before making any kind of impact.   I know some IU fans get all worked up every time a kid says yes, but I don't like the turnstyle, and walk-on's suggest your scholarship players aren't giving you what they want or you need practice players....which can be found in every fraternity house on campus.

If Perea or jurkin were even decently coachable they would be off to the pros by now as a first round pick, bc of their size and athleticism
