IU’s basketball culture is dead (and the case for why our next coach should be given 6+ seasons)

Please do not disrespect Curt Cignetti like this. Definitely doesn't help your case that you're an IU fan in any way other than basketball. Basketball has been bad here for decades. Football is king now. IU fans can absolutely lament the decline of basketball but there's little basis to want to trade football success for basketball success, other than emotions.

I blame it on Myles Brand and the trustees since only once out of many have they hired  a replacement in the same coaching talent as Knight. The knight rape comment after his last NCAA championship, Ehrlich reprimand, students picketing Ehrlich home; they(President, trustees, media,assistant coaches, and unfortunately some students) were out to wreck him snd our program and they did. When Bobby came home to Assembly Hall I really believed his curse was gone but the recent hires say otherwise. So until we get a top coach like Iowa, Michigan, Iowa State, Nebraska, and including a few more talents; this curse will never be over.

I’m not interested in athletics as a whole. I said Dolsons job is tied to more than just football.

$6-7 million for a middle of the pack B1G coach?  You fell in love with McCollum after 3 tournament games. The difference between McCollum and DDV was a 4 year point guard.

I was pushing for McCollum last year. Guy has won everywhere he’s been. Just further proves it this year.

In reality it isn’t.  CFB is king and drives 70-75% of athletic dept revenue and 100% of a school’s influence in college sports.

That’s fine you’re bball first, people like what they like, but this is the reality of college athletics, even at IU.

Somehow I suspect if CDD is going to get us where we want to be, it will take more than a couple more years (I believe Carr has said things to that effect).

I believe that Carr was talking about a few years to get the classes balanced out, not to start winning.

Indeed it is. The swimming, soccer, and other programs are doing quite well. The CDD hire might not work out, but if you look you should see that it isn't because of a lack of effort or a willingness to spend money. Football, however, is the sport that brings the most attention and by far the most revenue.

The non-grad, reversible jacket crowd like the dope above is exactly why this fanbase gets the rap that it does. Living in the 80’s and thinking the world revolves around a program that hasn’t been relevant in 30+ years is silly. And much of our administration thought the same until the vision of Dolson/Whitten. We’re lucky to have them.
