I love the facts, thanks.  I do see a big difference between 05-06 and 07-08.  Almost $7M

As for the buyout money,  I know it's not sitting on a table right now.  But I also know there are some furious big time donors who will be stopping their contributions and would be willing to help pay to fix things.

'07-08 was the launch of the B1G Network, which helped our media rights quite a bit, some of which IIRC was allocated to MBB.  But I'm not going to look up whatever the amount was, if it’s even out there.

We'll see what the big time donors do with MBB.  I don't have a read on them except that they're going wild for football.

I literally said waiting too long is part of what got us here. Moving too fast can also keep us here. Contrary to popular misbelief, two things can be true at the same time.

Is it wild to believe good coaches who have sense enough to understand wouldn't want to come here if we're chopping heads in year one?

Sure. Show me the program that fired coaches too fast and I’ll believe you. There’s some secret coaches club where all the top coaches gather round the camp fire and tell horror stories about programs that pay a lot of money and fire coaches fast.  At least that’s what gullible IU fans believe.

Except nobody can ever name them.

Otoh, the UNC alums including their most famous alum didn’t think Doherty should be fired after 3 years. But they did it anyways and the result was 3 national titles. Kentucky fired Gillespie after two years and the result….again, a national title.  So please explain to me how two of the biggest names in coaching, Calipari and Williams, were lured away by big ol’ meanie schools with the reputation of firing coaches too quickly?

Nevermind…I already know the answer. Nobody in the world cares when you dump an underperforming coach. Nobody. Literally nobody.

He needs top 10 NIL. Simple as that.  Are we serious about basketball?  If so, make it top 10 and outspend to generate wins and a turnaround.

If not, hover around 20-30 and plays craps with the program. We see where that got us this year.

What gets us to top-10 roster spend do you think?  $13-14M?  I'm just guessing.

I dunno... if CDD can't make the dance with $10M, I'm not sure he can anything too exciting with $13-14M.  That's my concern.

Those programs came from MUCH more recent success. They were still relevant, and that's why it worked. Also paying under the table in a lopsided playing field helps a ton.  We are an afterthought to everyone else except ourselves in an open, much more competitive market. Unfortunately it's what's outside our little bubble that has more of an impact on the direction of the program instead of the tantrums we throw inside the bubble.

You can keep telling me I'm wrong if it's your most effective method of self-soothing. Things will get better, but you're just gonna have to wait, and I'm deeply sorry for your discomfort.

Why does “top 10 nil” get us there?  Didn’t Woodson have top NIL and got us nowhere?  You need more than rent a players.

Will do.

If you ever find a shred of evidence for your theory, please post it and I’ll reconsider.

I did.

You didn't consider. And it's fine.

I missed it.  What schools did you tell us fired coaches too early and now can't find a good coach?

Dusty went 27-10 year 1 and targeted Wolf.  We got Bailey, who I kind of think can be coached up but doesn’t have much time left.

Team not buying into DD’s offense does sound extremely damning if true.

Worst case scenario we hire Dane Fife on a budget. :)

I'm not on the "fire him" bus yet, however I got crucified here for saying I wanted McCollum....  He is ready for the Big stage.  DeVries so far looks and sounds completely like he's be more comfortable coaching at Wheeling West Side High School.   Today, he said his team is "fatigued."  They have played 3 games in 3 weeks.  And they're "fatigued."  He also said they're not buying into his offense.  HUGE problem.

His son is incredibly lazy and generally careless; he successfully recruited not one single "physical" player or anyone with upper body strength.  We have no size.  We appear to have no idea how to get a good shot when needed and settle for bad ones.   I mean 20 for 52 on your home floor is embarrassing.   Woodson was awful, and I am very glad he's gone.  But this is almost worse because he said the right things and now just looks baffled.

It certainly looks like they aren’t buying in.  If they are not buying into his offense, then it’s time for A$$ meets bench.   I’d rather have 5 walk ons who buy into the offense and get run out of the gym, that guys that aren’t on board.   Devries needs to get control of his team or he’s finished.

1000% agree!

You're right, nobody is taking the job mid season.  So he stays to the end then takes a leave for per$onal reasons and we hire a new coach.  I'm not actually advocating for him to lose his job today.  He can stay until March 8th lol

That's awfully accommodating of you.
