Side note: the most underappreciated awesome thing from the NC game is the fact that the LB that Mendoza trucked on the 5yd line was the same guy who gave him the concussion hit at Cal. Love that, and you know he remembers it.

It’sa different world in the NFL even from when Luck played. QBs are protected more than even in college. He should be ok unless he feels like he can’t succeed except for running.

Pretty unbelievable (and obviously justified) amount of belief in this staff for a guy that had his draft believers coming out of Cal (hi!) but wasn’t a surefire first rounder, let alone 1OA, to turn down THAT much money.

Totally. Fernando is a smart guy and his choice to play for Cig and staff paid off majorly.

I'm seeing a ton of skepticism for Hoover online and in the media. If there's one thing I'm not worried about, it's Cig's ability to pick and develop QBs.  Doubting him at this point just seems like a lazy hot take.

I do wonder how much we will miss having Whitmer in the building, but I'm sure the current staff can build on some of the learnings from his time here.

Whitmer is big time. I’d be more worried if Tino didn’t come back and we were dealing with an unknown (to us) though.

Clearly Fernando gave up a little to gain a lot.

Fernando Mendoza's salary with the Las Vegas Raiders is a four-year contract worth $57.27 million, fully guaranteed.

Diego Pavia whiffed on any kind of UFA contract and is most likely earning $15/hour slinging fast food somewhere - probably in the back as he'd struggle to see over the counter.

Meanwhile, Ponds is doing quite well at a similar size. Pavia chose the wrong position to try to make the NFL. Little man with a big ego. Bad combination.

Looking back, I'm happy during the portal for the '25 team I had no idea what our roster budget really was.  I don't know how Cig did what he did with a roster budget around half of the big boys he ended up beating.  It's got to be the most amazing accomplishment in modern sports.  Leicester winning the Premier League is close too be fair -- similar deal with a tiny squad budget and doing it over a whole long season.

Now we're top third in the conference in terms of resources.  That should make things easier for the staff...
