One thing that I've read needs some fixing for this game is our gosh darn dagnabbit silent count.  I guess Iowa figured it out to some extent (we use a hand motion), which was a pretty big problem.

I love this staff, but we've had this issue before, it shouldn't be an issue, and I never want to hear about silent count issues again.

Also, per the presser Cig said they didn't let Fernando audible at Iowa due to crowd noise.  I'm sure he knows best, it's just a little odd to me since Fernando is a very capable QB.

Anyways, I'm not trying to second guess this fantastic coaching staff, I know 0.001% about football compared to them, I just find this stuff surprising.  I'm sure the silent count issues are known and will be fixed going into Autzen.

Cig is about playing mistake-free football.  Part of that is keeping it simple (i.e.; conservative).  One blown audible and you have a fumble returned for 6.  That could be the ball game away from home.

Good news today  -  Curt Cignetti on All-American cornerback D'Angelo Ponds: "I expect Ponds to be fine and play." Adds that they found out late in the week that Ponds wouldn't be available for Iowa. Says Ponds' absence led to Indiana playing a bit more zone than they typically would.

This week's Cig presser shows like a man that has about seven minutes to give these questions because he's got serious work completely taking over his mind:

He mentioned all the things that I’ve seen from the Ducks when watching them…Big, fast, athletic, depth.  IMO, IU has to play flawless football, their best game AND get/make the breaks to win.

Frickin’ Niziolek opening up with a question about Oregon’s unlimited program resources.  Cig swatted that bulletin board/excuse material into the 10th row.

C’mon Niz!  ;-)

Updated after this past weekend. You can dive deeper here. Our rushing game doesn't look promising against their run defense. But there's a reason they play the game folks.

PSU weighed extremely heavy for Oregon. Parker Fleming verifies this with his tweet.

Two interesting developments:

1) Line opened at +10.5, it's currently +7 to +7.5.  Hopefully the smart $ bettors moving this line are correct.

2) Current forecast is cloudy, cool (upper 50's at kick-off), 7-8 mph wind, and a chance of showers all day.  Probably doesn't make a big difference, but if anything might help us a little?

CBS will send Brad Nessler (pbp), Gary Danielson (color), Jenny Dell (sideline) for No. 7 Indiana at No. 3 Oregon at Autzen Stadium on Saturday.

I have listened to interviews with Danielson almost weekly and he is the typical Purdue turd. He will not give IU or Cig any accolades. I really resent the fact that he has a platform when he is so obviously biased.

We'll be hearing about how hard Purdue plays this year before the first quarter ends.

Good breakdown. While I believe we have much better talent on the lines than previous years, Oregon has some dudes. Bigger and freak athletes all around.

Not super surprised that an offensive line outweighs a defensive line. That's just...kinda how it works. Iowa's OL outweighed our DL by 27 pounds, Illinois' outweighed it by 41.

Our o line vs their d line will be an intriguing match up. They run a 4-2-5 and blitz with the SAM often. If we pick up blitzes well (which I am worried about), I can see Mendoza taking advantage. Would love to see some misdirection runs from Hemby or even Khobie to keep them honest.

Interesting factoid: Combined record of Oregon’s opponents is 11-16. Combined record of IUs is 17-10.

Oregon has three wins against teams over .500: Montana St. (4-2), Northwestern (3-2), and Penn State (3-2). Of the 10 games those teams have won, 2 were from power conferences. NW beat UCLA and PSU beat Villanova.

IU has 4 wins against teams over .500: ODU (4-1), Kennesaw St. (3-2), Illinois (5-1), and Iowa (3-2). Of the 15 games those teams have won, 5 were from power conferences. ODU beat Va. Tech, UI beat PU/Duke/USC, and Iowa beat Rutgers.

Oregon has the star power on their roster but I think there’s a possibility IU may shock some people this weekend.

Not too worried about the game against Oregon.  Checked the air traffic control issues.  Right now, there are no delays in Eugene.

On the other hand, that is not looking at flights originating and connecting anywhere else.  Oh well...hope that IU fans show up.

Sure, it will be a challenge for the team, the coaches, & etc.  Protecting Mendoza from Oregon's DL and the blitz is, of course, a big deal.

The road game against a really good team is an excellent test for IU.

I plan on enjoying the heck out of the game.  Great entertainment!  Huge opportunity to bring home more than just cooked duck l'orange.

Duck with a orange marmalade glaze on a platter with oranges onions and sprigs of thyme.
