I’m kind of torn... I remember the mascot, from the late ‘60s… Dad had some bison stuff (programs, newspaper clippings) when I was a kid… 

What I really don’t get is the sudden affinity for black… our school colors are Cream and Crimson... instead, we get black, red, white in almost every shade except Cream and Crimson.

I do agree that there's something special about the uniqueness of Indiana athletics, especially basketball - no mascot (until now), no names on the back of the jerseys (basketball)... but as Uncle Bob sang: "the times, they are a-changin'".

I'm old so of course I hate it.  But if it resonates with kids and grows the program in any way then go get it.  

When other old friends ask me about it I'll just grumble about young generations and nonsensical kid stuff.  So I guess i'm complicit.

Mascots are dumb.  But if any other fanbase says anything about ours I'll defend the Bison's honor.

I'm going to jump in on this one as I was on campus 1966-1970 and I don't have any memories whatsoever about a bison mascot and I didn't miss any football games.  On the other hand, my memories from that time in my life may be somewhat impaired.

My username is not in reference to my time on campus or graduation from IU.  I do recall as a kid in the 80's I had a waste can and a throw rug, and both had a bison on them.

This is what I envisioned, so get your pistols prepped! 

I'm fairly ambivelent about the Bison and mascots in general. I think winning teams and hot cheerleaders are a better representation of your school (not necessarily in that order.)
