Willing to see who the hire is before saying that.

However, missing on one of the best candidates in the cycle (who happened to be a "hot mid major" coach) does not bode well.

I don't see us hiring a middling P5 coach just to have a higher floor. And I don't see any star coaches coming here at all.

He's going to have to find an undervalued guy who has a history of winning and can get people excited/engaged.

Dude has great PR to shift the blame off himself from the Woodson hire, but he won’t be able to do it this time around. This one’s all on him. He’s going to need to either pull a rabbit out of a hat or hope Cignetti keeps winning 10+ games to keep the heat off.

Imagine if...

McCollum goes to Iowa....and crushes it!

May continues to flourish at Michigan and gets regular Sweet 16s and Final 4's!

Painter and Izzo keep up with their high level averages.

And, we bring on Brownell...who reverts back to his SEC mean - of regular low to middle of the conference finishes - and a top 3-4 in conference and small run in the tourney every 6-7 years or so.

This scenario, or similar, could very well be the straw that breaks the camel's back for many deeply ingrained long time fans. The unwavering fan and booster support that has been a huge asset -- with each successive miss it becomes more fragile.

Perhaps we already are there, but it would certainly be a text book case study for Sports Management classes on administrative mismanagement and institutional dysfunction.

what will you do when you don't get to pump this narrative daily?

Scott Dolson should be fired if he doesn't hire who I want him to hire!   I know he's done his diligence and knows how important this is.  I know he's more invested than me or anyone I know and I know he's a former manager, absolutely understands where he is, and just hit a home run across the parking lot.

I know he knows WAY more than I do and I know he's been in it for months.   I know he's vetted candidates and I know he understands his career will be defined by THIS hire.   But dammit, I manage TWO Jersey Mike's sub shoppes, and if he hires a guy I don't like because I assume I know more than I do....and because I know more than Scott Dolson....he should be fired!!

How incredibly ridiculous.

It’s almost as ridiculous as hiring Brad Brownell would be.

Because you know more than he does and you've got all the information he does, right?   How about we don't act like children who don't get what they want, and trust the guy that just a year ago hit a bases empty grand slam?

Do you actually believe Brownell would be a good hire, or are you looking to scold us? IU basketball has not been good during Dolson’s hire. Hiring Woodson, raising his salary, and retaining him for a fourth season were all bad decisions. Folks will say Dolson didn’t have control over any of those decisions, but they were made on his watch. I’ll start trusting Dolson when it comes to IU basketball once he starts making good IU basketball decisions.

Speaking for myself, I'll certainly support him if he is hired and I do think he'd do a decent job here. He's shown upside these past few years at Clemson. Maybe he's a late bloomer and can bottle that up and have success here. Not such a stretch to imagine. He could also suck here IMO...

I would continue following the team/recruiting but many people would be underwhelmed initially, and I think that's understandable... I wouldn't be jumping for joy but I wouldn't crap on the guy yet either.

IUBB needs to win people over again after the past couple years especially, but you know how long it's really been... People have a hard time trusting anything other than a proven grand slam. IMO, those guys aren't coming. I'd love to be wrong though.
