Memorial sits on land donated by Francis Joseph Reitz.  He was a big wig in Evansville back in the day.  He pumped money into both the public and private schools along with what today is University of Evansville.

I'm not sure about Combs' eligibility either. I'm assuming other 812 Memorial folk on here might be able to provide some input on his status. He and his brother wrecked havoc in the SIAC down here in my neck of the woods. Completely took over games.

It was foolish how good those teams were. We got Combs and Lindeaur when they were SOs though ;)

Two really good B1G backs are in tonight. Roman Hemby and Dante Dowdell. Hemby is a jackhammer.

Hemby had 117 yards on 10 carries against IU (75 yard touchdown run).  Also a good receiving back — 40 catches this year and over 100 for his career.

Dowdell is a bruising big back.  600 yards for Nebraska this year with 12 TDs.  Not a real breakaway threat.

Supposedly, Hudson’s deal with Texas A&M. Insane if true. But, hey, kid caught 8 passes last year. Makes me even happier that Cig is focusing on hungry lower level kids moving up.

Any rumors on Moten? Or just thoughts in general?

He’s pretty highly rated in the portal and had 5 picks, but looks like he didn’t even make Honorable Mention for All-Conference C-USA.

Regardless, he’s one of the guys at the top of my list. The idea of having him and Ponds at corner gets me amped.

I don't think IU will add any more corners as of now.

Matt Weaver, the Peegs IU Football beat reporter, said that he expects many of our most notable portal signings, including a quarterback will be announced by the middle of next week. I love that Mendoza visited on the sly. Of his supposed final four options:

  • If he'd chosen UCLA the announcement would have/could have come already
  • It's not Wisconsin - they just got their starter
  • It's apparently not Miami - that's home for him but they're not reported to be a finalist
  • That leaves us or Georgia and I love our chances. If he's coming from a messed up culture at Cal and visiting us with complete inside knowledge on our culture? That's really good.

Was this stealth-like? lol I knew there were plans, but I didn't realize it was last week...

That Mendoza situation at Cal sounds like a real mess. I did some digging on Cal football boards yesterday. Ugly. I'd provide details, but I'm not sure I still understand the situation enough to make any sense of it.

I have been reading as well and yes, there is a lot of frustration all over. I feel Mendoza was sort of like a Penix situation. He is a great qb, but the OL couldn't protect him enough. That's just one thing I gathered.

Ugly because they're butthurt? or?

Cal fans said they will miss him, but they are all mad because they didn’t have an OL to protect. I’ve seen a couple of Cal articles berating the OL issues and if they had a decent one, Mendoza would not be leaving. Now if there were other issues involved in this, I’m out of loop besides the OL problem.

They're definitely butthurt. But it seems like there were shenanigans from player and staff all over. Just seems to be a really dysfunctional program right now. One big claim is that the OC was undermining Wilcox, promising playing time to other QBs but Fernando still beat them out. I think he was also promising playing time to QB recruits and Fernando was negative recruiting against Cal while the starter? Idk man...like I said, I can't make sense of it lol. And of course it's all message board stuff, but there are former staffers getting involved on Twitter too. It's a rabbit hole to end all rabbit holes.

And that's when I stop feeling bad for the Cal getting their players taken in the portal. Thank you

I saw probably the same thing. Some of it came off as sour grapes but other parts, if true, were concerning.

Really like our chances. I think Beck could potentially come back to Georgia.

I'd hope that's not true. It'd be insane to agree to that for a guy that caught a whole 8 passes.

Branson is off to the NFL (at least try and make a run at it), he ran out of eligibility. I wished he and Lindauer were IU uniforms, since that was a strong possibility back in 2018. Since CTA came and visited twice, but decided to not offer them. Supposedly, he regretted that decision on not offering them. I believe their cousin plays TE at Ball State, but unsure if he is a scholarship player. He was pretty good during the 2021 and 2022 seasons for Memorial.
