CSP Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 Everyone who thinks Tucker will start has seen him play extensively, right? Outside of that, whole LOT of assuming going on. str8baller 1 Quote
Feathery Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 I think all our wings/guards need to do what the Bama PG did and go make 15,000 plus 3 pointers this offseason. Makes not attempts. So they will be getting up over 40,000 attempts. Come back and have a drastically improved shooting team. Quote
8bucks Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 Not sure we will know what promises may or may not have been made about playing time. Bates and MR did not start. I put Tucker more in their camp than in MM's camp. But honestly, I don't worry about that. I think most of us initially thought Woody would bring in kids with 1 year remaining via the portal and we would have to completely rebuild the roster again next offseason. I am glad to see the addition of Tucker but less for next year and more for the year after. Rice also has 3 years left I believe. These would be great additions! If we are not a sweet 16 team or better next year we probably have a coaching change and adding guys like this may be attractive tools for the next coach. CSP 1 Quote

If we actuallly start the off-season by adding Tucker, then Rice, and I pray for Carlyle, as well... mercy a youth/talent infusion for sure. 8bucks, FW Hoosier, Stuhoo and 2 others 5 Quote

Outside of that, whole LOT of assuming going on. It is, but it is assumption based on empirical evidence. Per 24/7, Tucker is the 5th highest IU HS commit since their modern ranking era began which goes back to about 2004. TJD is 11. Does it always work out? No, Tamar is 10. Players of his ilk don't come to programs with 7 open roster spots to come off the bench. I do not personally think Woody is throwing out guarantees per se, but it certainly is no stretch to pencil him in as a starter baring some major portal happenings, and I would not at all be surprised to see him leave if he gets recruited over. Kansas, Duke, Illinois, Louisville, MSU, and a half dozen others offered him so I will assume their talent evaluators have watched him play extensively and thought enough to offer. I am not saying I even necessarily disagree with your position, just logically, it is hard to see a scenario where he was told "we are going to recruit a bunch of older portal dudes that play your position but we will give you a bunch of money and maybe you can earn starting minutes." It isn't a wild premise to assume he is starting/getting starter minutes from day 1 after committing to team that cannot currently field a full roster when he is the entire recruiting class. You gotta remember the situation when Tucker committed. We lost 2 players to graduation, 3 other reserve players transferred, and Ware was going pro. We had no portal commitments, and no incoming recruits. Mike Woodson was not in a position to be ambiguous with Jordan Tucker. He couldn't say to him "if you want to be a starter you've got to earn your spot at Indiana." 5* McDonald's All Americans, whose preferred path in life to the NBA is through the G League, don't come off the bench for a team that didn't even make the NCAAT the previous season. Tucker is starting. All we have are our opinions, and arguments to support them. I am of the opinion he was essentially guaranteed a starting spot. I have no idea what position he'll play, but that's not my problem to figure out. That's Woodson's to solve. OKHOOSIER 1 Quote

Rice Tucker Mgbako Reneau Those last 3 are 100% starting. No way is Tucker coming here if he isn't. Did you see IU's backcourt last year? It was one of the worst in division 1. If Rice comes to IU, and a big IF, he starts next year. I think out of those 4, the three locks in that list are MM, MR, and Rice. I do think that Tucker was probably given some kind of, "Kid, you are great, no way you aren't good enough to start next year" kind of speech to get him to come to IU though.
