IUrocker Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 I wonder if Michigan is in a spot to offer him more minutes or even a starting role. Not too sure what their situation is with what they’d be able to give him. If both Michigan and IU are saying he’ll be a role player off the bench then hopefully our higher money will be the tipping point. I also think, like Chris said, he’s probably going to like Michigan’s system better and think he may get more shots there, so that worries me a bit. Not much tape on IU the last few years that shows snipers getting a bunch of shots…I guess we’ll find out. Quote
AKHoosier Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 I hope we add Essegian. There's enough talent there for him to help us in a reserve role playing 12-15 minutes per game. He's better than Leal IMO. IUrocker, Jeff Flabjohns, thebigweave and 2 others 5 Quote

We needed a scorer more than JUST a shooter. I preferred Carlyle at the 2, more so than any other option we have seen thus far. His catch and shoot #s, spot-up #s were as good as any FR in a Power 5 conference. We've already had a shooter-first in Woodson's system, Parker Stewart. And while he was a good 3 point shooter by percentage, that's about all he could do. Couldn't dribble, couldn't get to the hole, couldn't create for others, etc Woodson's system is all about 1 and 2 man games. Guards have to be able to win 1 on 1 matchups vs their defenders in order for the system to work. We've had one guard in 3 seasons who could consistently win those matchups. Carlyle and Rice is the most dynamic backcourt duo CMW will have had to date. GloryDays, Henryville Hoosier, Crimson and Cream and 5 others 8 Quote

Agree…and obviously there are some factors that go into this that people can nitpick, but just to put into perspective: Indiana high school career points: Leal - 1,620 Essegian - 2,526 Hoosierfanyuh and Alford Bailey 2 Quote

We really don’t have any thing to offer him playing time wise. As I understand it he wants to be at Indiana, but that would probably be a deal breaker for me if Michigan is offering me first off the bench status and 15-25mpg. Quote

That isn't even going into his FR and SO years. (not quite as familiar with their roster make up in those years).. 4A vs. 2A, though Bloom South plays a not all that great of schedule, is still prevalent, as well. IUrocker 1 Quote

I'm here and BTownqb has it exactly right. Shot-making, especially from of our guards, was non-existent last year, and yes that includes the ability to shoot from the perimeter. But how many guys were effective shooting off the bounce in PnR? How many could get to the rim when they wanted? On top of converting? How many times did they get to the line because of their dynamics? That was by far and away our biggest issue last season, not "We PLaYeD THrOuGH THe POsT". thebigweave, CSP, Stuhoo and 2 others 4 1 Quote

Connor was for sure option 1 at Central Noble and didn’t have as much competition. I’m just bias and trying to talk him up since I went to CN too (even though I graduated the year after he was born haha) CSP 1 Quote

HoosierFan1994 Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 Was listening to Assembly Call last night. Assuming IU gets Carlyle, the rest of the roster might be a little hard to put together. All that will be left is reserve roles. A good problem to have but it still make time for it to play out. Quote
IUrocker Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 Another thing about Connor, his freshman year when he played a good amount of minutes at Wisconsin before his back flared up, he was at about 89% on free throws. Good guy to have in there late in the game when other teams trying to foul. If he can be a guy who’s willing to accept a role as someone who can knock down some 3’s and be money at the charity stripe then he’d definitely be a good get. Quote
NashvilleHoosier Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 That Goodman video is hilarious. Yes, we need better shooting but this whole take made me laugh out loud: "What did Mgbako shoot from 3 as a freshman? Don't know but it wasn't good and he was supposed to be a lights out shooter." "My one piece of advice is to go out and get Stojakovic b/c he's a lights out shooter....well, he wasn't as a freshman, but he will be." thebigweave, J34, CSP and 3 others 2 4 Quote

ISP Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 Nothing noteworthy from me on CE yet. Last week I was told that he was contacted by over 60 schools, had narrowed it down to single digits, and was making visits the rest of the month. I was asked to keep that private, but that is obviously already known by everyone this week now. Parents + AAU coach are the only ones really in the know with this and are playing things close to the chest. FWIW, I was told they think he will commit in the area so his parents can make it to more games.... that would include IU, Michigan, ND, Butler.. IU is and always has been #1, but I would imagine playing time might be something to consider and reconsider given the guards we are adding. Stuhoo, lillurk, str8baller and 4 others 5 2 Quote
