SIAP but TD is "predicting" Ja'Kobi Gillespie to Maryland FWIW.

If they had him and Mack from Harvard + Queen next year... they could be interesting depending how they round out the roster.

I don’t see Mack going there if Gillespie does.

I also see Willard still ******* it up regardless of who he gets.

Precisely. Have the chance to build the team you want and this is our decision? He’s Galloway who shoots FTs slightly better.

I think he’s a lot better driver with a scorer’s first mentality. I don’t hate the idea of Perkins and think he can be a plus two way player here, but I don’t really love the idea of Perkins and Galloway as your 1 and 2 guards.

What’s criminal is wanting a Ferrari that’s not for sale.

Find someone similar. Oh wait, we had McNeely who was probably as close to a Sandfort Comp as you can get and lost him. Wishing Hickman is anything like either of those 2 isn’t sound logic or scouting. Our staff hasn’t proven to be good at scouting so it all adds up. (Sparks, X, Durr, Ledlum…….).

Now when they realize we need to prioritize shooting we go after Perkins when we already have Gallo? 2 guards who can’t shoot.

FWIW Identified these rosters issues last off-season too when apparently our staff was too googily eyed to see them themselves that lead to this mess we are in now.

Reneau seems like an easy punching bag because of some head scratching things he does, but he does finish.  178 of 290 inside the paint is a solid D1 percentage (61%).  Average is at 50%, so regardless of him 'forcing shots up with 3 people surrounding him', he's making shots.

People seem to want everything from a player.....you want him to not only score but be more of a rim protector, a rebounder, a rim runner, and a passer.  EVERYBODY wants the guy you are talking about. Give me three of the guys you are talking about and I'll win a national championship.

Reneau shot nearly 70% at the rim this year. That’s elite (Edey 73%). He could be a 20 ppg scorer with 4 perimeter oriented players around him. He struggles against digs and doubles, Woodson invites that playing a 2nd big and with guards who can’t space the floor. I know we’d give up the coveted “rim protection” but he would thrive against single coverage in the paint.

A Perkins/Galloway backcourt is basically an X/Galloway backcourt with worse shooting.  I refuse to believe that's the plan.

If Woodson goes after a Ware type big in the portal you can pretty much bank on Galloway being the 2 guard, along with Mgbako at the 3 and Reneau at the 4.

Exactly. So why even pursue it at all and waste whatever effort it takes. Which is my point in the end. Do we know what we want or what we are looking for?

You don’t have to pursue every guy in the portal. But then again, maybe we do.

I get the sentiment on Perkins, but strictly looking at him from an individual standpoint, he’s a multi-year double figure scoring in a major conference who is a plus two way player. Those don’t grow on trees.

But you can’t do that and create a winning team. If you have a team full of shooters and add a Perkins. Maybe. But that’s what Iowa was, and they were never very good either.

When your 2G can’t shoot, that 2G needs to play 1 or your 1,3,4 need to be shooters. Need 3 shooters on the floor if you want spacing for your 2 bigs.
