Well it's not a good thing to be primarily coached and developed by Mike Woodson.  Mike is a terrible coach who also exhibited poor character here too.

I agree he is a Hoosier.  IU has been very good to him too.  I've got some insight into him (not senior night) and it leaves me not too excited about him returning.  But again, CDD knows best and if he returns that's fine.  I get you like him, probably from a distance, okay that's fine too.

Ha.  What a strawman.  I didn't call him a henchman, nor did I villainize him.  What I'm saying is based on many stories I've heard about him over the years I'm not too thrilled about him returning.  Get a grip.

Poor character? Because he hurt your feelings lol.

You didn't even watch the games lol.

Yep, bash the fanbase.

”Adversity is part of sports, and for those of you who are so quick to give up and call for quits and everything, there's a reason that you guys aren't coaches. So relax. There's no other coach in the country that I would trust with anything in my life than coach Woodson, and there's no other university I'd want to represent. So we're gonna run it back, but you guys gotta chill."

Thanks so much for “running it back” chill guy Leal, the missed tournament and regular blowout losses sure proved the fanbase wrong.

Nope.  Based on how he treated people and handled situations, and also how hard he worked.

This all manifested when in his third year he was ranked around #100 in the country with top-15 resources, and in his 4th year he took top-5 NIL and missed the tournament.  When the on-court results are that bad, behind the scenes is even worse.

Who did he mistreat? Oh your feelings?

Like I said, Charmin soft.

Yes. And? Did he develop the offense? Did he recruit the portal? You really going to blame Leal for last year lol?

Leal turned down a world class education at Stanford to stay home. Could have transferred at any point the last 4 years to seek a better opportunity at playing. Yet, he put his head down, busted his @$$ for 5 years, and became a quality defender in this league all while he and his teammates were mercilessly dragged all year.

He deserved better.

Was it all his fault, no.  But if he was a leader on last year’s team he was either a poor leader in where he chose to lead them, or an ineffective leader in not getting much of the team to follow him.  Thanks to Tony for his effort on the court, but it’s time for something different.

Are we supposed to thank him for that? Leal received far more than IU received in return. The idea that he’s some kind of martyr for staying at IU is complete nonsense.

Who's calling him a martyr? Not villainizing a former player who did nothing but represent the university the right way should go without being said, but here we are.

Our fanbase has zero reputation and certainly not a negative one, as you're mentioning.

Leal showed his loyalties when he took a payday to bash the fanbase (that was completely correct) for his crappy coach. He’s a Woody guy through and through.

no.... He's an Indiana guy. He has 24 yrs worth of fandom to prove that. Good grief

are you implying Leal has poor character? I hope not. I tend to agree with you on Woodson, from what we've seen.

No.  I also don't think he has amazing character from what I've heard from people who cover IU and do NIL/business stuff with him.  I'm just not that thrilled if he returned, but as I've said a million times, if CDD is okay with him, fine, it's not a big deal.

Frediko to TAMU? I assumed we were out on him when we went to Alexis and Harris. Fine by me

Asking price was too large for what we wanted and we moved on.  Alexis had higher block and rebounding percentages.

I like Harris and Alexis over Fed all day every day. Fed is a known quantity, well understood limitations on his game, but would fit a needed role and bring size. Harris has three years and could be a high upside player. Like Stu said, kind of guy that DDV can say “make me play you 25mpg kid” … and Alexis brings championship experience, probably capable of playing the same back up big role Fed would, possibly better in DDV’s scheme. Getting two for equal or less than the price of one seems logical especially when one has 3 years left and the other is fresh off a title. I like the personnel choices so far. Would like to see one more big guy for depth. Goode or a young developmental guard too.

I would still assume FF affects more shots overall. Alexis is a significantly better rebounder, though.

I also think Alexis fits us better.

Yeah… I don’t feel so terrible for them. Like @Stuhoo even said, him and Gallo knew Woody’s limitations better than ANYONE. They still made a conscious choice to play for him for a bag. They knew they wouldn’t go pro and it was too big a payday to turn down. Plus they love IU so much. Who wouldn’t as a student athlete with NIL money? Lol. They are Woody guys. I’d like a fresh start. Best for all parties.

Exactly how many guys aren't playing for a bag in the NCAA?  I'm not going to blame Leal for that.  I can prefer getting another big to Leal being back without bashing Leal.
