I expect we will pay big for one of the remaining “good” bigs. We are probably one of the few still sitting on money and have plenty to sell

I expect we get Curtis. This would leave us with Bailey, Alexis, Curtis, and one more quality portal big splitting the 4/5 minutes that are not filled by Devries at the 4. I think this will be fine. Not overwhelming but top half B10 frontcourt.

I’d like to take a flyer either on a freshman/euro guy or pay a premium and grab one more “stud” of any position.

It sounds like we're in bad shape in the frontcourt if Alexis plays any bigger role than say Peyton Sparks did. Just a spot player here and there.

Of course. You still have a massive deficiency at the 5 defensively. You have close to 20 mpg to sell at the 5 spot, which is right in Federiko's wheelhouse.

Not seeing that at all. In your scenario--- one of Miles, Enright, Drake, or Dorn isn't playing much at all.

Bailey isn't going to play more than 25 mpg, he's not good enough defensively at either spot. Telling me that in the event they sign Federiko/Miller on top of Alexis, that duo is only going to play ~15 mpg? Nonsense.

I'm not even sure what I had for breakfast this morning and we have people who are already sure about how much a player will play that they never have watched anything but a transfer portal reel.

I do remember what I had for breakfast (bagel sandwich and coffee, 2 sugars 1 cream) and feel perfectly comfortable expressing my opinion on a message board.

Thanks for chiming in.

What's confusing? He's not a 30+ mpg player in the B10. He was barely a 30 mpg player on a terrible A10 team. Brings a lot offensively, he gives you next to nothing defensively. IU isn't good enough defensively 1-4 for him to play the bulk of his minutes at the 5. And if he is playing the bulk of his minutes at the 5, it'd be an equal rotation with someone like Miller or Federiko....I could live with that.

I could live with that too, and I think that’s probably the plan. I think there is one more big coming and they will each play 20ish minutes at the 5. Then you’ve got Devries at the four and Bailey sliding over at times.

there will be some mop up minutes for the bigs like Alexis or Curtis but I find it hard to believe coach is banking on them playing much more than that.

right now in present time sure, but history would have IU as more the more decorated basketball program, not just operating in a silo from the past say 10-15 years

I think more Anthony Walker, but hopefully a bit less minutes than he got.

You’ve got 40 minutes to fill at either spot. Bailey and Devries will play the bulk. I do not believe Alexis was brought in to play their immediate backup.

4: Devries (30ish), Bailey (10)

5: PortalBig (20ish), Bailey (15)

That leaves 5 minutes left for Alexis. I think the above minutes allocation is very likely so there truly aren’t many minutes left unless we do not get another quality big. In that case we may be a little thin and he plays more.

I'd be pretty surprised if Alexis doesn't play 14MPG (Walker totals)

I mean... he played 10+ MPG for the National champion

Drake probably my guess unless he outplays Enright. Whoever emerges between Dorn and Miles will play more. Alexis would still need to earn his minutes.

Right.  If the outside shooting pans out anything near what the numbers indicate IU will need only a solid 5 who can rebound, move the ball, and do the intangibles.  Daryl Thomas, Dean Garrett, or even a Noah Vonleh or Jared Odle type production will suffice if the scoring comes from anywhere/everywhere else.  Go Hoosiers !!!

Did you just use Jared Odle production in comparison to Thomas, Garrett, and Vonleh?  Ummm......

Federiko wouldn't start. Bailey is playing the bulk of his minutes at the 5. I'm not sure how much more clear our current roster could make that.

The more pieces that we’ve signed the more I’m leaning towards this as well. We may look a bit like Frans Iowa teams next year, but if we have a coach who can actually coach guys up on the defensive end that could be really fun to watch and, depending on how the defense comes together, potentially better than any of us are thinking today.

You may be right. But just looking at our roster and putting faith in our budget it would make sense they are going to bring in one more big that would be a starter level guy.

Only 80 minutes to go around spread amongst Devries, Bailey, Federiko/Miller, and Alexis. I would have to expect Alexis falls at the bottom of those four guys in this hypothetical. Maybe that lands between 5-15 minutes depending on the night.

Idk. He’s a undersized center. Doesn’t really have stretch 4 potential. The B1G isn’t kind to undersized centers imo. The Greek kid as a stretch 4. Then get 2 Centers. Miller and Curtis. Or Miller and Federico. I wish we could have recruited a better 5 overall, however Bailey might be the starting 5 in which case it changes some things. I also realize only about 9-10 will play and Alexis might not be one of those guys. In which case it doesn’t matter. I feel that way about a couple of our additions.
