You might be right on the direction of the conference, but no one (that I have seen) is asking for Ballo 2.0. Also notice the guys being discussed for a post are Federiko/Miller, etc, who barely weigh 200lbs, but are athletic. Which is just like most of the Sweet 16 teams this year. I don't happen to think Bailey fits that role.

Wanting to have a legit defender at the 5 doesn't = 'post-centric.'

Thats not at all what I saw. I see people wanting “bigs”. I took it as they want banger types. This teams built like(imho) the Miami team that nearly won it all. 4 guard and one semi-big on the court who can do many things. I mean if you want to look at the direction look at Wisconsin. Totally different team this year. Gone with the swing offense and traditional pack line. Guard might’ve adapted styles nobody expected and doing it Temu style.

I don't think he is an adequete post defender, regardless of his measurements. I am basing this off my limited observations. Apparently you do based on yours. It's April, so nothing will settle it for several months.

I don't know how you couldn't be an adequate defender with his measurements.

He’s not bad in spurts, but there’s no way he can be your only defensive oriented player in the front court next season. What if he’s only good for 10-15 mpg or god forbid he gets hurt again? Need a rim protector who you can rely on for ~20 mpg, and if it cuts into Reed’s minutes, so be it.

Who said that? I think you missed some of my point though. He’s not going to be the only one. This team will get backside help and blocks from these athletic wings. It’s been done before. Just not in the big ten.

Low block rate, bad rebounding rate, poor positioning…likely due to strength. Teams in the A10 scored at the rim at will with Bailey in the game. He’s a perimeter-oriented player that just happens to be tall.

Bailey is 6'10-6'11 -- -230/235.... and is well above average athletically. Yes he is.

I guess everyone thinks blocks/rim protection comes from post players. Just here to poke the bear I guess.

Do we have athletic wings? We have taller wings, but Miles is the only one who I would consider to be a plus athlete. I don’t think you’re going to get much defensively from DeVries, Dorn, Wilkerson etc.

Maybe they’re serviceable but that’s not reassuring especially if Bailey is playing a bulk of the minutes at the 5.

You are leaving out the other players though. They were bad defensively at the point of attack etc.

What other players? You’re putting a ton of blind faith in mid-major players not revered for their defensive prowess.

He’s defensive numbers were atrocious last year. There’s no defending it.

idk what you're drawing that opinion from... I hope not "block rate"

But... now you're moving the goal posts... You just told me he's a "perimeter-oriented player"--- he takes 70% of his shots at the rim.

I don’t think you are putting enough though. Lots of similar ranked and graded players made the transition. UK, Louisville etc did this exact type of thing.

69% of Reed Bailey's shot attempts were at the rim last year.

Who cares? He’s a face up 5 that dives and cuts to the rim. He doesn’t play on the block. 65% of Danny Wolf’s shots were at the rim last year and I guarantee you nobody takes issue with calling him a perimeter-oriented player.

We may look a bit like Frans Iowa teams next year,

Jeez…I hope not. They’ve been putrid on D the last few years. Worse than Tom Crean and Woody defenses. We’ll have little shot at the tourney if we’re that bad on D.

Ideally, we’d look more like Wisconsin/BYU/Kentucky this past year. A top offense…. Don’t need to play a blistering pace to get it…and inside the top 50/60 on def efficiency. Purdue , Uconn, and Illinois were similar but played slower.

I get the personnel issues and comp to Iowa, but they're so dang bad on D I hate to even see that comparison.

Bailey can drive and move well. People sometimes think 5-out means 5 shooters… Bailey is skilled enough tho be that 5 out big. Will be fun to see.

It’s riveting watching the top challenger & undisputed champ of doubling down on bad takes locked in a death spiral…

Just a forum, talking basketball. Not much more than that.
