I am not paying him any money. How do you know how much he's asking for?

Nijel plays team ball. Nijel didn't end anyone's career, crazy assertation lol

He got Bruce Weber fired and Jim Laranaga said "F*** it, I'm out" in the middle of season...both with Pack as the lead player. Weber won the B12 the year before Pack got to K-State and went to the E8 the year prior to that. They fired Weber, Pack left for Miami, and K-State went to the E8 the very next season. Pack was great for Miami as their 4th best player the year they went to the F4, but after Wong and Jordan Miller left they went 9-31 in a bad ACC over the next two seasons.

He's an absolute cancer. Pass.

Have heard L'ville gave Conwell an offer he couldn't refuse. North of $2 mill. IU was around $1.8

I appreciate the resistance to not jump and automatically overpay someone. Long time before rosters are set and more names will enter.

Also, remember, contrary to past seasons, DDV has a process to building his roster, not just acquiring a bunch of talented players and hoping they fit.

This is true...but CDD clearly thought Conwell was a good fit to his system else he wouldn't have offered him close to 2 mil.  It's fine to admit losing Conwell sucks but acknowledging there's still plenty of time to build a strong team.

Nijel Pack went to a F4 lolol

avged 16p 3r in those 5 games 46% from 3 on 7 attempts a game and played 34 mins a game. He was their 4th best player, if Pack if your 4th-6th best player... you're pretty good.

Nijel Pack isn't taking a million dollar+ discount to come be the 4th-6th best player lol

Not true.  Indiana wanted 1.5 up to 2.  Louisville offered 2.  Mikel Brown is over a million.  Wooly or whatever his name is, is around 2.  5 million dollar back court.

Why I said “if reports are true”. I’ll be honest, I don’t know a single person who is putting out numbers knows for sure. You seem positive the $4 mill isn’t true but positive the other numbers. Just don’t think anyone really knows which again is why I said “if”

Maybe I look at the portal differently but I don't want all the portal players being seniors. I want most of them having at least two years of eligibility so we might be able to build a foundation for the program. I just don't want to be in this same place next year having to build the whole roster again. Guys like Conwell or Dix would be great but will only be here 1 year. Also I don't want to throw money at players who are good but not great. I like Conwell but he is now on his 4th team in 4 years and only made the tournament once. I would also hope we can at least get two more high school recruits to go along with Sisley because that will help building the foundation. I would really like to see the guard who was committed to WVU to come here.

I understand this sentiment...but unless your Houston, who seems to keep players despite less pay (see Juwan Roberts as an example with Kansas State offering him a ton of money last off season)...seems like there's a risk of losing a player to a portal nor matter what year they're in. See Tre Holloman from MSU as an example. It's virtually free agency every year. So no matter what year they're in, they might only be here 1 year.

I view it like this….its a money game. Fill the roster with 10-12 million.  I think the numbers so far are like this.  We need to fill in the rest with the best team possible.

1) Tucker DeVries - $2 million

2) Trent Sisley -$600,000

From what I have been told, if DDV doesn't think the player fits like Pack, he will not even go after him let alone overpay.

Didn't DDV indicate this exact sentiment in his presser at IU when he was introduced as the new head coach?

Just checking in. Have a handful of the top portal players agreed to sign with IU for much less NIL because of the programs success 20+ years ago yet?

If not can someone twitter them and tell them to come read this thread so that they can realize that IU is a blue blood  program and much bigger deal than those programs that have been successful the last few decades and that BTB fans are not at all delusional, demanding, bipolar fans ?

Yeah, we wanted him, but we set a number we were not going to go above because we have options that are close to the same in the coach's eyes. We'll see if it works out.

Occam's Razor.

This is the explanation that is not only the most likely one, but the explanation that makes perfect sense.

Great post Chris.
