Exactly... they spent $6M+ on mercenaries that don't know what IU basketball is supposed to be, to be led by someone who doesn't appear to remember or care what IU basketball is supposed to be so he can ignore recruiting kids who know and want to be a part of what IU basketball is supposed to be.

Disgusting on every level.

I normally don't delve into the whole "mercenary" narrative too much because I believe the portal is going to continue being an important part of college basketball roster building and I don't inherently have an issue with kids transferring.

It needs more reasonable limitations in place than there are today, but I think we eventually get there. Anywho...

  • Ballo - we saw laughing his butt off when the game was close vs. Winthrop while he's apparently suspended.
  • Gallo - constantly gets flak on twitter for being in the bars/blackjack in Bahamas. He and Leal took big checks to come back. I think Trey understood he traded his last year of eligibility and a chance to compete elsewhere for a big pay day to return.
  • Leal - barely plays (not his fault) but benefits greatly (to an outsized degree vs. his production) for his support of Woody. He's got a bright future outside of basketball, it seems. Something more chill prob.
  • Mgbako - I think from a basketball perspective, he and Tucker know they need to transfer after this season. I'd bet Mackenzie wanted to hit the portal last season but the money to come back to IU and support Woody was just too much to pass up. Hope it works out for him though I think his stock has been severely impacted by playing for Woody.
  • Reneau - maybe wanted to hit the portal too (seems there was a lot of smoke?) but also couldn't turn down the big pay day?

It just seems more apparent than ever that Woody got his billionaire friends to prop him up (unsuccessfully) while Quinn ran cover to buy him a fourth year. The kids aren't bought into what the program is doing at all (because it's offering virtually nothing from a basketball perspective), but they are enjoying the benefits of IUBB.

Yeah , I am overjoyed. Mostly because it seems to bother some/ most of you guys so much.

I revel in the angst some of you guys have over IU winning games

You can't really he serious that you are happy beating Winthrop by 9 points at home. Just look at the rest of the big ten games today and all we're played against mid or low major teams. We win by 9 and the every other team won by 20+ and three won by 40+

Admittedly, I've hit the "mercenary" theme pretty hard... but that's how I see this team - especially the ones you listed... Ballo, Galloway, Leal, Mgbako and Reneau.

While there's nothing wrong in the current system with transferring, it seems like some of these guys are only in it for the paycheck. They recognize that Indiana and other schools will compete for their "services" and will pay them better than they could make in the G-league or overseas... so it's all about the Benjamins.

To me, it just comes down to the culture the head coach has put in place, whether they’re transfers, returners, or freshman.  Unfortunately, I fear that when a coaching change is made, it will have to be a big, well-known name capable of commanding the respect it’s going to take to revive this program’s now sorry reputation.

Clearly you don’t understand market worth. Someone believes he is worth what he’s being paid.

Sure that a bunch of clowns on a message board have no influence on his paycheck.

That "somebody" is Quinn Freaking Buckner. It was a nepotistic hire... graft, payback, etc.

Looks who's back to celebrate the epic win!

With IU facing the  3 of the 4  teams( including their win against 155 ranked MIN) in the B1G with a lower NET rankings to start the conf season, you may see a brief appearance followed by an extended absence due to  MLK Day, Presidents Day, and early tax season prep.

He'll disappear again when PSU spanks us next Sunday.
