They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

I guess my main concern is that when Steven's isn't hired it will come back as the administration was incompetent. People believe it is going to happen then when it doesn't happen they will blame people even though it wasn't ever a possibility.

I think the bigger concern is that short of hiring a reincarnated, in-his-prime Bobby Knight, anyone other than Stevens will inevitably be a let down.

Dusty most likely. I don't see stevens.

Especially since his contract is up in August.  He’s most likely using it as a negotiation tactic

Somebody who wins in an amount correlated to their resources will not be a disappoint. We want to make the tourney every year and a top 4 seed to be the norm.

We aren’t being unreasonable

Beyond Brad I really don’t who we should hire.  I’ve never met these candidates and interviewed them to figure out why they are successful to date and why they would or wouldn’t work at IU.  I am praying Scott figures it out in the interviews, he has done it before, which gives me hope…

Depends how the negotiations go and who they ultimately hire.  Surely they know by now that they can’t just let Brad jerk them around for 2 weeks after the season ends.  If he has genuine interest a deal will be made quickly.

But yes, if it ends up being another Charlie Brown going for the football situation and we end up with Shrews or someone similar then the **** will hit the fan.

I meant in terms of "winning the press conference." Obviously if whoever they hire ultimately wins, then Stevens will be forgotten.

That is what I am talking about because we have no idea if they are actually having negotiations or if Brad has any interest at all. This is where I think these message board rumors hurt because the fans think it is true

I don't believe it's going to be a mid major coach unless it has to be. Stevens, Beard (like it or not), Pearl, and May are your 1st calls in that order if you're a serious program. If they say no (very doubtful), THEN you can be free to go after the best of the rest which may or may not include mid major coaches.

It's also mind boggling how much power some people think Woodson still has at this point in his tenure. He and Buckner have zero leverage as it stands, none.

Is it hunting season? You need to spend some more time outside. You got bad vibe energy right now.

It’s called common sense. You guys bring a great vibe, but most of the so called insiders, give bad information and it makes the whole fan base look stupid and gullible. We haven’t got a hire right in 30 years, what makes you think it will be any different this time.  I have also been saying Michigan will try and lock up Dusty May the closer we get to hiring a new coach. I would be happy if we pulled him away, but the Brad Stevens talk is just silly.

It’s pretty likely someone different is hiring the bball coach this time.  And that person just hired a very good football coach, a feat which seemed nearly impossible.

I’m not saying you need to believe the Brad or even Dusty stuff.  But there are reasons for optimism that we hire someone good.

This has always been the card I'd play if I was Dolson. Next guy will be here for a long haul so this is your shot Brad. Hoping Dolson is smart enough to know he has SOME leverage if Brad really does have interest.

Not saying what will eventually unfold but rest assured that there is no “if” with regard to Scott being smart enough.

Beard to IU confirmed.

*logs off*

Have had an epiphany. Beard to IU as what? The answer is Associate Head Coach for…….Brad Stevens. And now it all makes sense. Brad isn’t just some coach/executive. He is, in fact, Keyser Soze. He’s able to simply bend men’s wills to his own, or so I keep hearing.  And Beard is his Kobayashi. IU basketball is about to enter a golden age that John Wooden only dreamed of. Schools will hang banners for LOSING NC’s to this monolith. And, my friends, the dawn of a new age is only 2 short months away.
