They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

At least CTC's first year teams had fight to them!  We all knew he was building, but they competed and we all stuck with them!  This season, and the last decade for that matter, have been nothing close to that effort!  I think that is where most of the discontent comes from.  Also, Mike Woodson's arrogance!  I'm not sticking up for CTC, but at least we had some hope...All hope seems lost now with Woody!

Spot on.... I was watching the PSU-IU game with a buddy who's a Duke fan.... at one point he turned to me and said "holy $h*t, did I just see not one, but two IU players dive on the floor for a loose ball???"

The standard is the standard.... and ours is Mickey Mouse level

Who is your guy that you want leading the 25-26 team? If you picked the coach

If I'm just picking people realistic or not I'm going Stevens, May, McCollum. I don't watch as much CBB as I used to so there might be others but that is my list.

My annual for fun list and it's certainly not all-inclusive and I certainly don't mean to imply that every name on this list is a viable candidate.  Far from it.  Personal opinion is our next coach will be under the age of 55.

  Age @ 1/25

Pitino, Rick 72
Barnes 70
Izzo 69
Sampson 69
Calipari 65
McCaffery 65
Pearl 64
Few 62
Marshall 61
Self 62
Matta  57
Miller, Sean 56
Bennett 55
Mack  55
Davis, H. 54
Gard 54
Painter 54
Cronin 53
Holtmann 53
Hurley, B. 53
Hurley, D. 52
Beard 51
Oats 50
May 48
Shrewsberry 48
Otzelberger 47
Smart 47
Miller, Archie 46
McCollum 43
Wade 42
Pitino, Richard 42
Scheyer 37

IU Guys
Alford 60
Chaney 53
Lewis 47

Other
Donovan 59
Stevens 48

I see that Archie is 46.

Why wouldn’t Pearl leave Auburn for IU?   I feel like IU is one of the very few places he would leave for.

I think he's just tired of IU messing around. He's been talked to about the IU job twice, even discussed numbers last year. I think he is happy at Auburn and they are promising his son the job in the future

IMO Dolson has been back channeling since the end of last season with the level of back channeling only increasing as the months have gone by.  He'll have everything in place by the time the season ends.  Woody will announce his retirement - he's not going to get fired - saying he's done his job and shortly thereafter Dolson will announce our new coach.  New coach will be able to hit the ground running for the portal and the '25 AAU season.

What if that is the start of the playoffs for the Celtics? :-)

A part of me really wanted Fife to be in waiting once the Woodson project was done.  I know he said all the right things in front of the camera and had the background of being coached by Knight and years under Izzo.  I was really bummed out when he was let go.

Probably won't be till after the illinois game tomorrow. If he wins that the fans will start to get excited until the next time woodson shows up so unprepared we lose by 35

That is exactly why we lose games by such a large margin, we are unprepared.  He thinks he can win games by shear talent alone.  You might be able to get by with that in the NBA but not in college.  I can’t believe he played for one of the best coaches in college basketball to prepare you to pls and this is the crap we get!  It’s just pure laziness

I was under the belief that Cig had very little NIL this past year. What was the increase he got vs Allen?

Football had a little over 13 million in NIL this season is what I was told. And more for next season

I think that $13M is an estimated number for our total collectives -- so that's going to BB, FB, etc.  Big FB programs are paying $10-20M NIL for their rosters, and we aren't near that yet.

My understanding is Allen was around $2M/yr NIL for his rosters -- bleak.  Cig was promised $3M NIL for his first year and he ended up getting $4M or a little more for last year's roster.  I don't know where we are now, maybe $5-6M+ NIL for next year, plus of course whatever we allocate to FB of the $21M rev share, probably $15M or so, but I am not sure if that's decided.

I think many of us was!  He would have helped Woodson do a better job of scouting and preparation

I think it's already been said behind the scenes that they will keep donating plus your going to gain others who stopped giving because they didn't want Woodson any longer.

This!   I don’t have proof, but I bet many have stopped donating because of Woodson.  He only got the Cooks and the Simons to donate because of of QB

You might be right but I was told our total NIL this season for all sports was about 20 million. Now almost all of that was taken by FB and BB  with a little bit spread around to some other sports.

I did hear from one woman's coach who asked for more NIL and was told no. Was told they could give her more scholarship money but no more NIL. Moving forward that NIL money would be going for BB,FB, WBB, VB and soccer. With a sprinkling for Baseball and soccer

It is extremely telling that three years after Woody let Fife go, no college team has picked him up.

Yeah, but who knows if he was perusing coaching anymore.  If there was a major issue, how did he last so long under Izzo?

Who knows, I just had my hopes up that he was the guy back then.

That was an all-in Indiana number for NIL, not just football. Basketball alone took almost half of that.

as you and Stu noted, football NIL is climbing for next year. Cig will be able to offer a lot of money moving forward
