Rick Pitino Jr. has done doing extremely well at New Mexico in a solid conference, he’s been mentored by the best, and he took his lumps and learned at Minnesota in the B1G (and had three 20 win seasons there). 

I have no reason to believe he’s being considered, but I’d get behind him in a heartbeat, and more so than McCollum.

I think there’s certainly an argument for a guy like Pitino. But, man, it’s 1 thing to not care if you win the press conference, but it takes conviction to know you’re absolutely gonna lose it.

He’s still only 42. Plateaued at Minnesota (which isn’t an easy job to begin with) but had some success there and recruited some nice individual pieces. He certainly not at the top of my list but probably worth a look if it gets there. He’s rumored for the Miami job which makes a ton of sense so probably a moot point anyway.

He started at Minny at age 30. In eight seasons there he had three 20 win seasons, two NCAAs and an NIT championship, and won B1G coach of the year. Did I mention he did that at friggin Minnesota, and did all of it before his 40’th bday? That’s pretty damn good ‘big boys playing’ for a young coach at the worst job in a 14 team conference.

But at Minnesota?  Not a juggernaut for college basketball supremacy!  Now I think Rick Pitino is a little shady and the Apple usually doesn’t fall far from the tree but how do you know he can’t succeed at a power 5 school with a good basketball reputation?

Moving up the coaching ranks is like moving up the fighting ranks. You’ll never know if you’re a champ, a contender or just a gatekeeper until you get the shot. The thing about the B1G is that nearly every coach is better than the best coach in Drakes conf.   
 

For every Bo Ryan there’s a Steve Alford. And for every Alford there’s a Todd Lickliter.

I think the issue there is probably NIL. But it’s really tough to picture a dude in his 60’s leaving the only gig he’s ever had, even if Randy Bennett is whippin’ his a$$ these days.

This I agree with!  Very well said and I think Richard Pitino took his lumps but at least should be interviewed.  I would take him over McCollum and any other mid-major that people are bringing up
