They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

This has always been the card I'd play if I was Dolson. Next guy will be here for a long haul so this is your shot Brad. Hoping Dolson is smart enough to know he has SOME leverage if Brad really does have interest.

Not saying what will eventually unfold but rest assured that there is no “if” with regard to Scott being smart enough.

Beard to IU confirmed.

*logs off*

Have had an epiphany. Beard to IU as what? The answer is Associate Head Coach for…….Brad Stevens. And now it all makes sense. Brad isn’t just some coach/executive. He is, in fact, Keyser Soze. He’s able to simply bend men’s wills to his own, or so I keep hearing.  And Beard is his Kobayashi. IU basketball is about to enter a golden age that John Wooden only dreamed of. Schools will hang banners for LOSING NC’s to this monolith. And, my friends, the dawn of a new age is only 2 short months away.

I can’t guarantee Scott gets the hire right, but I am quite sure he has been prepping for this moment for years and has a Plan A, B, C, all the way to Z.  All the IUBB influences need stand back to let him go through his process.

This is the answer.

To me, I'm not really that concerned about hiring Stevens. If they get him that's great, but unoike many, there's a part of me that's concerned that he hasnt coached college ball in a decade and hasn't coached any basketball at all in a while. I get that he was considered some kind of coaching savant, but still, that's a LONG TIME to be out of college coaching.

If IU can get a good college coach who will be around for a while. Someone who is organized (unlike Crean) and has energy (unlike Archie and Woodson) and develops a great relationship with high school recruits (Woodson) and Indiana high school coaches (Crean), then I don't think people are going to be that hard on the Administration.

I think people were hard on the IU admin (rightly so) last time around because they swung for Stevens and then settled for Woodson (WTF?). Everyone realized that they went from Plan A all the way to Plan ZZZ...

They went for Stevens and Dolson hired Matta.  QB overruled him and forced the Woodson hire.  Hence why we had the first staff they had.

High probability it won’t go past plan B

I think he does but until stevens signs on the dotted line I'm not falling for that whole thing again. I think it will be somebody else

Yep. I think this is the little danger in the back of everyone's mind. There is still some talent on this roster. If it suddenly gots hot, who knows what could conceivably happen.
Plus, I'm not convinced that the B1G is full of world beaters. Every team is emminently beatable this year.
Stranger things have happened...

It is a concern in the back of mind… but can the Wizard of Broad Ripple really win 5 games in 5 days? Or even 3 in 3 days?

We all know it's always been a timing issue with Brad. The timing is right finally. Bag his a$$ up Scott and let's get this IU train a rollin'!! Choo Choo!!!!

After how many years, can BS really still get it done? Not doubting, but mildly curious.

I do think it will absolutely be Brad or bust.  Not because I don’t think there are other good coaches we could get but I’m certain Dusty is the #2 and I doubt he says no.  I think he would be a really bad hire for IU.  Just doesn’t have the chops or the personality to succeed here imo.  UM which is a football school is a much better fit for Dusty.  IU is way too much of a fishbowl.

How many had Coach Cig on their bingo card to replace Tom Allen?  Next bball coach could be along the same line.  A true grinder who lives and breathes the sport and has a winning record at every stop.  Maybe someone who's only gotten a passing mention on btb among all the names that have been brought up.   IMO Dolson will get this hire right.

I think Michigan is going to try to extend him to 5 right now during the season.

Frankly, they’d be crazy not to at least try.

It would be interesting to see if he signs… especially relative to the rumors that his low buyout was for a possible move to Indiana. Of course, that could all be BS/speculation… but that move could be telling to all.
