The “compromise” by Dolson to let this go down this way saved us some good cash on the buyout. Lot of litigation today. Make no mistake about it, this was not Woody’s decision to retire.

Sure, but (1) Crean has been here 9 years when we fired him and (2) when we fired him, he had one good year in the past four and had two missed tournaments. He also had ruined many recruiting relationships

Given our results since I wonder if firing him was the right move, but his tenure had run its course.

He had a heart attack a couple of years ago right before the tournament. I haven't heard of anything since then but with that as his history, health has to always be a concern.

Edit: there is denial that he had a heart attack but he did have a sudden, unplanned surgery right before the tournament to put in two stents. I personally call BS on the denial.

Didn’t know about all that. From a distance I would be shocked if he turned over the keys any time soon. He’s only 62. And he has Adidas in his pocket and a recruiting pipeline that never stops. I guess Father Time comes for all of us, but he seems awnry (sp?) and unlikely to leave because of concerns and instead run it until it breaks. I could be wrong.

In my opinion you’re missing a few, but either way I wouldn’t want to be pitching against UNC because they’re likely looking for a home run hire of their own if it came to that.

I thought it was at the time, little did I know IU would get to the point of hiring a guy simply because he played here about a hundred years ago.

Does it really matter?  He is gone at the end of the season anyways.  Fire him now might give us some hope as fans to finish the season the right way.  Let’s just do the totally cool thing and Fire Mike Woodson now and let Tom Crean finish the season.

I would support that!  I’ve been saying that exact thing too. Crean is available, probably wants to coach, and this will be a great audition for him to get another coaching job; however, many on here thinks with another interim coach it could turn into another Mike Davis debacle.  Dolson isn’t going to make that mistake, he’s hiring a good coach but he could have Crean or Fife, who would be a kick in the teeth to Woodson, finish out the season.  I’m just glad somebody else likes this idea too.

I don’t think Woodson retires mid season…but if for some reason he did, Calbert is probably our guy in the interim…also, he’s not looking to be a head coach so we wouldn’t have to worry about a Mike Davis situation. But my God, I’m beginning to miss those years in comparison to this. Let’s not forget…Davis’ last year, we were a 6th seed in the tournament ousted in the 2nd round by 3 seed Gonzaga and Adam Morrison. If we got a 6th seed, The King would be looking for another raise. Just shows you how much times have changed

Yeah I was fully on board at the time, but I really don’t think he could’ve done worse than what we’ve gotten the last 8 years from Miller/Woodson.

A denial is useless there, anyway. His coronaries were gunked up enough to need two stents. it was either a heart attack or about to be one. I guess they don't want the stigma of 'heart attack' hinting at any frailty at the head of the program.

There wouldn't be much consistency but there'd definitely be some better years.

It’s just a guess. It’s probably moot because I don’t think Woodson is retiring mid season. We will see.
