I really hope some of you don't have the meltdown you had 4 years ago with BS and BD 8 years ago if BS turns us down AGAIN.
I'd love to see him come, but I will believe it if/when he signs the contract. We shall see.

Well 4 years ago the hire was so resoundingly awful you'd be forgiven for thinking it was a joke.

If they once again go with someone that literally no one else is stupid enough to hire then yes there will rightfully be a meltdown.

An actual serious hire? I'd expect a different reaction from many.

Could we possibly compromise and tell Woodson that he couldn't go 28-2 at mcneese st and hope he goes there to prove us all wrong?

Then we could hire a coach that doesn't completely suck as a coach

McNeese would have to want him to be their coach. Not happening, just like every other program and NBA franchise.

Can you imagine why Jordan would ever consider playing baseball for the Birmingham Barons?  One might argue that he was "in the best of all possible basketball worlds" in 1993.  What is your opinion of minor league baseball?

Michael Jordan's first love was baseball and he sacrificed millions of dollars and probably two NBA championships to ride buses in the minor leagues for two summers in his 30's.  That's a pretty expensive fantasy camp!  Actually, had it not been for the MLB work stoppage in 1995 he might never have returned to basketball.

Bobby Knight called Jordan "the best basketball player I've ever seen play".  As a basketball player, many have argued (Knight included) that he was the best athlete in any sport.  Where would Jordan rank as a baseball player?

Speaking of Bobby Knight, one might think that he was "in the best of all possible basketball worlds" in early July of 1981.  He had just won his second NCAA championship by the age of 40 and had a talented group of players returning.  Isiah Thomas and Ray Tolbert were off to the pros but rising senior Landon Turner had blossomed into one of the best players in college basketball and Wittman, Kitchel, and Jimmy Thomas would be back as well.  Can you imagine why Knight would ever consider approaching CBS about joining the television network for the 1981-82 season as a college basketball commentator?  CBS would be a huge step down in my opinion.

Knight reached out to CBS and the network made a concrete offer for a substantial amount to Knight that summer.  When he returned to IU in the fall of 1981, Knight ultimately admitted to the media that he was “very close” to accepting the offer.  After Landon's accident Knight had decided to remain the coach at Indiana so as to be best positioned to organize the establishment of the Landon Turner Trust Fund.

Knight had worked as a color commentator for CBS during the 1979 NCAA Tournament and apparently thought enough of his performance to consider leaving the sidelines for the broadcast booth.  Never lacking for confidence, he would later explain his flirtation with a mid-life career change by asserting that "very few people have ever achieved greatness in two separate endeavors" (or words to that effect).

Brad Stevens may ultimately decide to not coach basketball at Indiana University, but is it really so far-fetched that a man who can choose his own path might choose to accept $70 million (plus) to do a thing he has always loved to do at a place he has dreamed of doing it?

And Stevens is a guy that turned down a high paying job at, and left, Eli Lilly to be a volunteer assistant coach.

I had forgotten about this anecdote. Was that in Season on the Brink?

Finally caught up with the last two days and man....

This cycle's coaching debate just isn't the same without Tony Bennett flying around in here.

Don’t you worry…when BS turns us down I am going to be driving that Bennett train full steam ahead! A couple guys are going to fire up the Billy Donovan thread. We’ll even dust off the Pitino—Rick, not “squirt”—guys and get them rolling.

We’re getting the band back together!!

I wonder about Texas if they move on Gus Fring. Not sure how close they are there, but I’ve seen some chatter about it on the interwebs.

Damnit I laughed so hard at the Gus Fring reference I woke my wife up in bed from it shaking.

I appreciate a good antagonist, and being argumentative just for the sake of offering counterpoints, but AH1971 is just getting so old. This thread has been completely hijacked - for days - by his negativity and everyone interacting with him.

This is supposed to be a highlight and fun in an otherwise crappy season, situation, state of program. If you wanna constantly be a Debbie downer, go somewhere else. And, yes, I DO just scroll past anything you have to say or any subsequent responses - it just takes a few pages to get through it all.  I happen to enjoy all the speculation and analysis of possibilities, regardless of how the odds of such stack up. Bash away, but I’m sure I’m not alone in this.

Pretty crummy birthday for this thread.

The wrong school announced its geriatric coach is stepping down after the season.

Post after post from a Woodson apologist crapping on the fanbase.

And I had to be careful reading this thread while at work because somebody posted a picture of some random coach and his wife and the damn thing got quoted like 20 times.

Hopefully extending our losing streak in Madison to 20-something tomorrow night brings us some new material.

Was she hot?  Bring her I back I missed these posts and it’d sure be better than what’s been discussed the last two days….

nevermind. Found it.  Hire coach hodgsdon

The last time they took a vote, he lost 3-1. One of those votes is at Notre Dame now. I think one of those has flipped, and no family will let one kid hold them hostage.

If Quinn is using IU planes to fly around the country, then we have donors who can lend their plane to the basketball daughter to fly home to see friends.

I forgot that his son was in HS at the time.

Just mentioned it because I could see his wife being hesitant to uproot their daughter again, of course one could say the same for Brad who was the alleged yes vote.

If Tracy is on board then pack some bags.

Yes, I had slowed way down on checking in and posting.  Every time I would check in hoping to read news about Mike Woodson getting fired or announcing his retirement, I would see AH1971 dominating the thread.  Uggghhh, Good Grief Charlie Brown!
