Fire Coach Woodson Thread

I dunno, nothing about last night moved the needle for me. Much like the Penn State “road” win this is fools gold. We beat a mediocre team missing its leading scorer and we didn’t really look impressive in the process. Ohio State was the only team in the top fifty with 7 losses, and now are the only team with 8 losses in the top eighty. The computers love them, and maybe they’ve played better, but what I saw last night was not a good team. It’s a good win for the team, it means nothing for Mike Woodson’s job security IMO

I agree with everything you said here.  It does not change things.  But clearly there still a few players that are wanting to keep him around.

I honestly doubt Assembly Hall will be full enough for it to matter. Especially a noon Sunday game

Yeah.  And they always play bad at Noon on Sunday.  Probably out at the bars too late.

Let's put it this way. You could not have played any worse and still won the game. It took everything and alot of luck played into a game that was well in hand with 4 minutes to go. You give any good team a 10 point lead with under 4 to go and almost all of the times they will win in regulation. The fact our guys predictably pissed that away is a sure sign of a bad team still in disarray

Us IU fans know what is going on here but say we won at NW so that would make us 15-5 and 6-3. From the outside people would think why would you fire a coach with that record. Also we would be in the top 6 of the conference.

To the extent Dolson is worried about outside people (he shouldn’t worry about that at all), I’d point them to the fact that most of those outside people predicted that we’d finish 2nd in the B1G, and a few picked us as a sleeper for the Final 4.  And I’d also remind them that Woodson stated when he took the job he was here to win B1G and national championships.

Nothing has changed... all of the insiders saying something could be announced "this weekend" and guess what? It's still "this weekend". Woodson pulled out a win of the slimmest margin over a 2-4 team. No one is walking back the "he gone" narrative. He's toast.

My question is why does everybody just assumes these guys actually know anything and there were actually these discussions going on.

Definitely a possibility regardless. I know some kids look like they still are trying for Woody but the locker room is pretty clearly having issues. Program is in a terrible spot... I just have a visual of us losing by 30 to Purdue and the stadium chanting to fire our coach, a program legend... getting his tail kicked by our rivals. And "We Want Dusty" would be something that the CBB world remembers for years. That would be mortifying for most people but apparently not Woody.

People were worried about the optics of firing a coach after three seasons with two tournament appearances. Anyone with a couple brain cells to rub together could look at the way we played, the recruiting, the huge losses, the overall lack of good wins (even with TJD), the portal method,  and see where this train was headed.

I would much have preferred the “optics” of firing Woody after three years than how ugly Michigan will be if we get nuked and he’s on the sideline. People want to blame the fans— you’ll actually have that opportunity due to waiting a year too long to fire him if he’s on the sidelines losing at home again.

You saw it last night in the game, but an added dynamic to this is there are players who still clearly like playing for Woody and all this noise does nothing but motivate them to play harder and want to prove all the haters wrong.  Us against them mentality can really work for a short period.

I was thinking about this as the game unfolded last night... some of these guys are willing to lay it on the line to keep Woodson on the sidelines, but only when his back is absolutely against the wall. Why haven't these guys played with the same reckless abandon from the start of the season? Why has this fervor not been on display all season this far?

It's doing the bare minimum to keep the crap fest rolling. No more. No less.

Exactly, if they truly love playing for Woodson why did they come out and play dead vs UI

If Quinn Buckner lets Mike Woodson walk back into Assembly Hall to get booed relentlessly for an entire season… who needs enemies with friends like that… maybe Woody has some sort of kink for being hated and doesn’t mind as long as the checks keep clearing and wine keeps flowing lol. We know he doesn’t get too upset about losing anyways.
You really think he gets booed if he is 6-3 next weekend.

IU is going to allow the narrative that Indiana fans are awful to grow if they allow Woodson to coach anymore games at Assembly Hall

We already know they’re more than content to let those narratives run wild. We are sacrificial lambs on the altar of their own egos… fodder for their own vanity projects… just keep the money flowing in fellas. That’s Your Job as a True Fan of Indiana Basketball.

I think I've got all the stages of this process figured out:

1) We get embarrassed, fans are pissed, we all want Woodson gone right away.

2) Our insiders/whisperers start telling us things we want to hear, leaving us eager for more and hopeful a change is coming.

3) The team picks up an unexpected, ugly win.

4) Our insiders/whisperers start walking back what they've said.

5) We prepare for the next inevitable beatdown.

Looks like we're at #4.

Our program is the definition of insanity...

Not the same amount of boos and chants as Illinois, but the “vibe” will continue being off, everyone groaning from the start of the game… even in AH I think fans will have a short leash at this point

Hope. My ~20 years as an IU fan have nearly killed all of it, but there’s still a little left. A fifth Woodson season would finish my hope off, though.
