Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

He wasn't dead man walking day 1 lol. All he had to do was coach. Listen to someone who has a clue and try to be successful. Unfortunately he doesn't have the drive or the knowledge to be a successful coach. Especially in college. Imo

But he kind of was because the experiment was doomed to fail. An NBA guy with zero college experience who is lazy. Was never going to work. He just expected to be loved because he played here 40 years ago. He is beyond lazy. The national media was laughing at the hire and they usually try and say every hire is great

I agree, he was doomed to fail from jump because he either didn’t know what the real job entailed or wasn’t willing to really do it. I think he thought he could cut corners and still get to where he needed to go and that was never going to happen.

An NBA guy that was pretty lackluster there, and couldn't get another HC shot after he got canned in 2014.

Yes despite his initial claims he has no real connection to iu except his buddies. The whole bringing the iu community together was complete bs. You will never see him at a game once he I'd canned.

If he was all about the university, he would not treat the other athletic programs like crap. He’d speak to other programs when invited, show up at other teams’ games, and generally not be an arrogant a-hole.

Yeah, he was. He didn’t have the first clue about recruiting or coaching college ball. He threw off the guardrails that Dolson game him and surrounded himself with buddies from his mediocre NBA coaching era. Lazy, reeked of arrogance and clueless. Dead. Man. Walking.

Does Woodson have any vested interest in any of our other programs?  Or is he more into the country clubs in the area.  Even during the women's tournament runs, he didn't give a crap.

Nope never and they did not do their due diligence or they would have known this. I still believe dolson was basically told to hire him. We are seeing why Woodson was never successful as a coach.

No he blew off the women's team and the women's coach. He doesn't care about iu his actions prove it.

The first half is about the football game on Friday and the fallout, but the second half is about the BB team and game on Saturday. Fish sounds like he doesn't see this team doing much, and he probably has more insight and experience with IUBB than anyone. He basically says they don't play hard. Woodson is done.

Don’t tell Aloha, but Fisch uses the e and e phrase! Lol

Yes.   Those type of coaches have big egos so they think they will be the coach to bring  IU back to glory.  Throw in the top 5  NIL, National Brand and fertile local recruiting area along with the recruiting doors opened by being the head coach of IU nationally in my opinion the risk is worth it for them even if they think they only have 2 years to get it done.

All you have to do is look at all the blue blood jobs openings the last few years and see that they aren't getting the elite established coaches. UK had to go with their 4th or 5th options and Duke and UNC just went with a former player who was an assistant coach. I think anyone who thinks we can get an established elite coach will be disappointed

Did Fisch say if they don’t play hard Woodson is done?  Fisch never seems critical of an active coach. The team at times but not whoever the current coach is.

No, he didn't come right out and say that.  He said that Woodson wasn't happy about the effort and compared that effort to Auburn who played PUke earlier in the day.  Coyle has been very critical of the BB team with the HS recruiting because he covers a lot of the HS happenings around the state.  The fanbase is turning on Woodson, and he can't survive if he loses them.

I was going to make a similar post. UCLA, Kentucky and l’ville come to mind.  now that does not mean we can’t overcome that but those examples as well as our attempts should remind us all that it is not as easy as we would expect.

Also Syracuse and Villanova both went with assistant coaches.

Yep each place ended up with a coach that had at least 6 years experience as an assistant coach in the college game.  Davis spent 11 years as an assistant to a Hall of Fame coach before taking over and Scheyer spent close to 8 years under a Hall of Fame coach before taking over (he was hand picked by K).  Pope was head coach at 2 places each a step up before becoming the head coach of Kentucky.  Each coaches where they played only major difference was those guys were college basketball lifers.  I don’t really care if IU can hook an elite coach as long as the next coach has spent his whole career grinding in the college basketball ranks I will be fine with whoever they chose

Does anyone see fisch publicly commenting on ius lack of effort and falling way short of their abilities as a sign woodson may not finish this season? Sounds like he sees and is bracing for the devastation we're all about to experience. I believe if our kids were playing hard but just not talented he should finish the year. Wasting talent because they are ill prepared or for whatever reason not giving effort he should get canned and let anyone else but him finish out the season! My opinion

Dusty May already surpassed Howard’s win total from last season and he’s in year 1. Turnarounds can happen immediately in todays game with the right coach.

And we could very likely still get May at the end of this year.
