Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Mike Davis was a better coach.  You give him Woodson's payroll ability at that time and I bet you he would have rarely missed the tournament.  He wasn't a great coach but he was serviceable.

MD didn't recruit Harangody until well into his SR year of HS. Let's not act like he was competent.

I am not saying he was great.  I am saying that if you gave Mike Davis the equivalent of $6 million back then that he would be able to buy a team and put a better product on the floor than Woodson has.  I mean, low bar, he wasn't the guy for here but he did do things at places like UAB and Texas Southern that there is no way Woodson would have pulled off.

Mike Davis was mediocre.  Mike Woodson is somewhere below that.

I think they're both trash, as well as Archie.

Perhaps, but Davis was the better of the 3 (IMO).

I wouldn't want any of the 3 coaching here, only one of them maybe should have had a shot at the job (Miller, but he failed) and the other two shouldn't.  Out of the 3 though, Mike Davis was the best and it really isn't close.

I think Mike was just as bad as the others. Just lived off BK's remnants. We were just as poorly coached from game to game and he didn't recruit Harangody, which is an all-time blunder.

Woodson's winning percentage at Indiana is better than MD's so it would be kinda crazy to make that "isn't really close argument." .593 vs .623 confirms that.

People don’t appreciate the advantage of NIL for Woody.  Pre-NIL we didn’t pay players under the table much and we really did not compete with UK, Duke, KU, UNC, etc for recruits because they were getting more money to those players.

Now our money can get us involved with almost anyone, which is a huge change.  Woody still flubs the long-term recruitments because he sucks, but Mike, Tom, and Archie would never even have a shot at most of these guys because they couldn’t pay them.

It is hard to fathom how bad Woody is.  Could be among the 5-10 worst coaches in D1.

Everyone has NIL, though. Like it isn't just us and while we might "have one of the biggest NILs", again, we aren't the only one with money.

Isn't Kansas State paying gobs of NIL to people?

Crean beat out UK and UNC for multiple recruits.

I want Woodson gone as quickly as everyone, but you all are flat-out forgetting how terrible MD+Archie were.

Let’s see how the rest of this season goes.

It's not going to change "that" much to back up, "Mike Davis was the best and it wasn't close". like cmon lol

So that turd smelled better? No it didn't.

Woodson didn't have the benefit of getting BK's players.

Well if it drops below .593, using your logic, that turd will have smelled better… right?

You are correct the bar is about as low as it can be.

Two things that I like about Dusty are he is constantly trying to learn more. The stories about watching European basketball at 3 AM to try to get a play to use and the other is his work ethic. He reminds me of Cig in that regard. He's going to be here at 4 Am and stay till 10:30. He's not going to be at his local hangout spot playing cards. He's always going to know who we play next.

At least with him you know if they're not winning it's not for lack of effort. The same can't be said about the current or previous IU coaches.

We have top-5 NIL resources.  So there are probably 10 teams in our ballpark in terms of team payroll.  You can’t dismiss that.  An extra $1-1.5M of payroll is one or two very good to great players, which makes a massive difference. $2M extra payroll is 2-3 very good players.

MD, Tom, and Archie’s under the table “payroll” was tiny and nowhere near top-10.  We just didn’t do much of that, especially after probation.  They couldn’t just throw huge cash offers at players and become a finalist their recruitments.  Yea they still got some five stars, Indiana has some appeal, but it was much harder for them.

Agree MD and Archie were bad.

Yes, Davis was not a good coach. Let's not forget the Conley f-up that also lost any chance at Oden.

I am not dismissing anything "top 5" ok-- others still pay people.

I am not buying recruiting guys to Indiana was ever hard.

But it's especially hard when you don't offer/recruit LEGACY RECRUITS THAT TURN INTO MULTI-YEAR BIG EAST CONFERENCE POY..... as big of a joke as Woodson is recruiting-wise, and he is a massive one, Davis has the all-time recruiting blunder.

So you can say the NIL this and that, that's fine, MD would have still had massive blunders, even with the cash.
