Fire Coach Woodson Thread

To be honest I thought they over passed in that possession.I liked the movement for a while but they passed up at least 2-3 good shots. Will that many opportunities be available against better competition?

Yeah, it was kind of weird. Maybe they were trying to get an open shot for a specific player or maybe the ones passing up the open shots weren't the best shooters.

I know the current IU team couldn't make that many passes in a single possession. They'd turn it over before they got anywhere close.

I think I counted 12 or 13 passes in that possession... multiple times the ball was in the hands of an open man...

Scheme is lightyears ahead of anything sleepy MMW could imagine.

Yeah - it's kind of a crap possession unless they were trying to get some stat for a particular player during a blow out. If I ever saw an in-game possession like that during a contested game I'd be screaming "shoot da damn ball!" at the tv screen.

They’re 333 in pace. He’s obviously a great coach but that feels like such a disadvantage in todays day and age.

Interestingly he said the same thing when he was interviewing for the Knicks job in 2020.  Shame they didn't rehire him.

"I did my job when I was here," Woodson said. "We won games. The fan base was engaged. I walked out of the Garden many nights thinking that the fans were proud and excited about what we were doing. Am I capable of coming back to New York and helping them build a winning team again? I feel confident in that, I absolutely do."

I've wondered before about how someone so thin-skinned survived as HC in NY. I have come to believe that it's because he's completely oblivious to those who aren't in his immediate circle.

IMO Steven’s is a pipe dream and not worth the effort. Not because he’s not worth it, but because he had his opportunity to come here and didn’t. He won’t now.

Can’t see May leaving UM 1 year in. Regardless if we are his Alma Mater.
Shrews would be a realistic candidate. ND is a football school first and foremost and with the school’s adamant stance on not joining a conference, eventually they will be left behind as the tv revenue sent to the Power conferences continues to balloon. He has good connections with Indiana high school coaches and runs a great system. Proven Power conference coach yet young enough to be a long term option.

I know we were playing the blind little sisters of the poor but yikes on the attendance.  And just so someone can't say it was before the game started:

Wowzers. The students kinda showed up, but the 40-75 year olds with money in their bank accounts most certainly did not.

I just don't get how someone who claims to be a knight disciple can think being .500 is doing your job. The mam is delusional.

Shrewsberry is a proven power conference coach? Yes, it's proven that he's had jobs in power conferences, a whopping 3 years and change at 2 schools. Proven that he can win big or even consistently in a power conference? No, not even close.

He did decent at Penn State considering how bad they usually are. Still only won 54.4% of his games there overall and 42.5% of Big Ten games (highest finish was 9th). At Notre Dame he's won 40.5% of his games overall and 35% of his ACC games.

I just don't understand the lovefest this guy gets on this board. He hasn't spent more than 2 years at any head coaching job yet and hasn't done a great job at any of them since the best he did was a decent job at PSU. A terrible record at IUSB (23.8%).

It's extremely clear he isn't a guy that can turn a program around quickly, much less whether he can turn one around at all. He'd be a nightmare hire since even if he's not winning in year 3 people would be saying that he just needs more time based on his previous jobs. Potential only but hasn't shown he can reach that potential.

The owner liked him and isiah Thomas. We had a ton of bad hires before and after him. To me he was meh.

Evans also claimed in the HH podcast (so take it for whatever you think that’s worth) that Woody was an assistant without basketball responsibilities like scouting opponents, implementing offensive/defensive sets, etc. during his final year with the Knicks. More of a locker room management/skill development role.

I think Michael Woodson has been very wise to cozy up with multi million/billionaires most of his adult life. It’s served him quite well.

Call Brad Stevens - why the hell not? Worst he can do is say no.

If he does, immediate next call is Dusty. Make him say no. If we can’t pry him from a conference rival, we can at least make it difficult for them, so they have to pay top dollar to retain him. If he’d be interested after just one season at UM and whatever may have gone down last offseason? Not the foggiest idea.

If we can’t get them, call Ben McCollum until he says yes or files a restraining order.

Bucky at Samford would also be acceptable. After this list, I’m not sure who else would possibly be feasible and also considered a home run hire right now. I’m sure they are out there. Hopefully our AD is finding them. I’d rather not go past this list though.

Sad how it’s December 4 and more fun to speculate on coaching changes than this season. Sigh.

I'd at least call Pearl. Yeah he's old but he could at least get things stabilized for a few years.

You know, like we were supposed to believe Woodson could do.
