Fire Coach Woodson Thread

We had a modern 4, we played him at the 3 all season until the last four games when I saw some clear choices to leave MR on the bench. If we cared about winning, there would have been some combination of Ware/MM/AW or MR/MM/AW on the court at all times but never Ware and MR at the same time and obviously limited minutes for AW. At least not for extended run unless it made sense from an opposing personnel standpoint. Wanna start them both? Fine, then sub out and start the substitution patterns from there.

There was an interesting stretch during one of the last four (don't remember which one so bear with me), where MR was on the bench (not because of fouls), MM at the 4 and the offense was wide open. It was actually fun to watch. MR gets subbed back in at the under-4 and the offense stalled somewhat with the clogged lane and pounding the ball inside and he was taken back out at like 2:15 left and we iced it.

They also pulled Ware off the block and let MR do the post ups.  Opened things up a little bit.  Better late than never I suppose.

Great point! Forgot about that entirely.. I was too surprised at what seemed like a conscious decision to not play them at the same time versus the old two foul auto-bench.

I think it was when he got kicked in the balls during the game is what you're talking about. Yes it was more enjoyable. There was also a time when Ware was in foul trouble and MR moved over to the 5 and MG went to the 4 which I enjoyed also

I've literally worked in PR/Marketing/Corp Comms world for 10+ years and I can most assuredly say it's a whole lot of nothing that she is saying.

I work in education and would say the same.  Lot of catch phrases and twenty-five cent words.  I was once in a staff meeting where the words 'blackline masters' kept getting thrown around.  Been teaching about 30 years at that point and asked what blackline masters were.  Turned out they were worksheets.

Seems like the Indy Star and SI articles would be far more alarming to me than getting on a message board.  I also think as a recruit or recruits parent, the coach's age, lack of 24 recruits and not meeting his own goals for the program (BT and National Titles) would be more concerning.

But he announced on senior night that he has done his job to all the true fans that should be good enough right?

No crime he asked a Mod to delete his account.   I’m guessing he will be back with another user name soon enough

Unless he changing his posting style, it's not going to be too hard to recognize who he is.

Anyway, if he comes back I expect him to be a troll and most anti-Woodson poster out there just to prove to himself that 'you have to beat part of the BTB mob to get accepted'.

Not sure if same game but I knew I had made a comment in the reddit game thread about it and it was Maryland in the first half apparently, for some reason I was thinking . But it has been noticeable the last four games to me at least.

I agree that we either need to play Reneau at the 5 or if we're getting a rim protector let him go. But no one wants to see two bigs playing together any longer

Except maybe Mike Woodson.

I basically think she is more or less saying "every coach at IU is going to get their 4, and people really like Woody, so why would you ever think he wouldn't?" Like... that seems to be her POV, all the corporate jargon/speaking in circles is just window dressing.

But hey, she works in the administration so that is why it's simple for her and so complex to everybody else. Just like Mike said... if you're not a "true fan," you can never really understand.

"people really like Woody", except for the other coaches who he thinks are beneath him. From what I've seen of him, he's an egomaniac who thinks his crap doesn't stink. He may have his bunch of friends (Quinn Buckner, Isiah Thomas, Ted Kitchel) fooled.

I agree we’ve underperformed but I’m shocked at how many of my friends say, we did great his first two years so let’s see what happens. And people call me not a “true fan” because I say barely making the tournament the first year and winning one NCAA game the second year with two NBA draft picks on it isn’t good. And it’s not just the record. It’s the entire direction of the program.

Maybe IU will offer an online course “Sit back and take it: How to be a true IU fan”

Maybe Woodson can teach it. I remember that Bob Knight used to teach classes like basketball theory. You know, let the man teach what he knows. /s

Yeah, I rather enjoyed some of the discourse.  I didn't agree with much of it.  But I did agree with some of it.   I'm sure we will get a told you so next season if Woody and staff build a monster and flips this MFer.

And if he stays, I certainly hope he does.

I personally think Woody is worried about the wrong stuff but maybe his competitiveness will win out and he will build a roster good enough.

I never give up hope no matter how dim the forecast is.

he will buy a roster good enough.  Sorry fixed it for you but it had to be done because building a roster would have to have incoming recruits.

Where is the “other coaches don’t like him” ideas coming from. I am sure I missed a post but have not seen soon that

Read somewhere that Woodson refused to speak to another team when the coach asked him to. I have also heard comments that he doesn't particularly like Teri Moren and would prefer that the women's basketball team not participate in Hoosier Hysteria. Could be idle and random rumor, but it's what I've heard.

Here's one post for reference:

Saw that too. Don't remember where.

Anyway, I refuse to believe this one is true. Can you imagine?

Agree, because imo MM (if he’s back) should be a 4, not a 3. Regardless of who plays the 5–Reneau, Sparks (!?!), or a portal addition.

Cigs filled in for him when he told Yeagley he wouldn’t speak to the soccer team.

He doesn’t think the women should be at Hoosier Hysteria or practice in Assembly. Those are stories passed around the athletic department. I would tend to believe they are true.

I'm just seeing what most of you already know about Louisville firing Kenny Payne after 2 years.

This is why we currently suck as a program.  All the damn slow learners involved with IU athletics who can't understand truths of who is a terrible coach unless you see it for years....YOU SUCK.  YOURE KILLING OUR PROGRAM.  GO AWAY.

Thanks, I feel better.  Slow Learners suck.

I don't think in the case of Woodson it "slow learners" as much as nepotism and "taking care of one of their own".
