Is anyone surprised that Woodson would be brought back no matter what? IU showed they were deeply unserious when he was hired; and the way this program has been run the last 20 years we know they wouldn't want to look mean and take the black eye of firing a program legend. It's been run so poorly it wouldn't be a shock if they were actively trying to kill it; keeping Woodson would be a step in that direction, then self report something stupid the NCAA couldn't care less about and give a self imposed death penalty, we certainly have experience with that one.

Like you said the hire proved they are not serious about bbal. So yes no surprise they won't fire him. It's not a serious program.

Good programs yes. Unofficially of course but UNC recruits well for field hockey and lacrosse for that very reason.

Thats what I always think is funny about IU fans. They think if you fire a coach early it scares off other coaches, but it’s really the opposite. Coaches don’t worry about getting fired because they all have insane egos. What they worry about is taking a job the have to rebuild from the studs with an administration that doesn’t want to win as much as they do.  
 

Holding on to loser coaches too long is what loser programs do. That’s how a  week or so ago when this thread fired up I knew Woody would get a 4th. Davis, Crean, Archie… the IU administration was the last to know they couldn’t coach in each case. 

To the point of recruiting stalling out, kiss that 2025 group from Indiana goodbye.

I just read that Kanye Clary, Penn State’s leading scorer, was kicked off the team.  I don’t know what he did, but it couldn’t have been as bad a what X has done and he’s still on IU’s roster.  He should have been kicked to the curb along time ago

Shoot, you think we get to 18 wins? Idk if we do this year and as of now, next year's roster basically has like 4-6 guys on it. I get it's unlikely Woody retires this year... but the fact the admin is not forcing the conversation and is content to let fans suffer through another year of this is sickening. They truly don't care about the product on the court as long as the money keeps rolling in. You'd think somewhere in the last 20 years we'd just get lucky and strike gold with the right hire coincidentally... maybe next time... life as an IU fan lately.

This isn't really about money. Woodson has friends in high places, he's a former all-American, all those people think he should get a 4th year if you gave Archie a 4th year.

Yeah we are but I think that is just to get a feel for who OSU is going after, who UM might be after and to see what kind of options were going to have next season. Dolson has a list of names he's interested in.

Ware is going NBA from all accounts. 

After throwing guys like Gallo and Renue under the bus -- if they are really unhappy, they have transfer options.  MM has transfer options as well.  

Is Banks still on the team?  Gunn probably moves on to mid-major for playing time.  

X and KW graduate.  

So Cupps, Sparks, and Leal (assuming he doesn't want to get serious about RE) are all that is left.  Bold strategy Cotton.    

Some of these guys will transfer. But some of them are making some serious money that they won't be getting at other schools. I doubt Reneau would want to go to another school & make less money, than staying here and be thrown under the bus occasionally

I’m sure that is being said. I doubt anyone truly believes it, they just allow themselves to so they don’t have to admit the total catastrophe this season has been. And they don’t want to take responsibility, which gives me no hope for next year.

Love McDermott. Should’ve gotten him instead of Woodson last time. He’d be 60 though if that’s an issue. They play good defense also.

We’re 8-6 WITH Xavier this season. 4 of those wins were against mid majors. 3-5 in conference play. I’m so sick of Mike Woodson and the IU administration. We need a completely overhaul from top to bottom.
