Ok, decided to jump back in after seeing this back and forth. I just see the 3pt shot thing as a minor issue with the current version of the roster. Woody feels the same and is done with podcast guys and people like Coyle asking it every time. He didn’t want to go into it. Reminds me of a former coach who didn’t want to placate to the media.

- we gave up over 100 to Auburn. We are never, no matter how many 3s we shoot, going to outshoot teams with this roster. defense is much large issue.
- we can do the following with this roster - turn over less, turn them over, offensive rebound better, guard the 3 better, hit FTs.

- there are multiple top 15 teams with low volume 3p shooting. Couple more per game isn’t going to change our outcome. Analytics can be improved in other ways than shooting 3pts. He is right. Make a few more and do other things better.

- subbing patterns - yeah, probably rotated better but nobody complained when the same platoon won the Michigan game. Answer is in the middle and he will adjust. He did in prior years if you look at minute distribution as season progressed.

They can hang with Kansas. Way different team than Auburn/Miami type. Get X back (I heard late Dec @Chris007 ??) but worse case early Big Ten and I think they will be fine. Matchup well with Purdue again as well. Easy to see path forward.

hopefully all are healthy for this game so we have more energy to give.

I heard at Nebraska January 3rd at the earliest or Jan 6 at home against OSU. But if it’s earlier I won’t complain.

Plenty of other teams have frustrated me as well I just kept it to myself or vented on the Mod board. lol.     For me this case is different and just had been building since the summer and is just a combination of a bunch of stuff snowballing into me being frustrated.   I can tolerate a lot of things but being second to last in 3 pt attempts a game out of 360 + teams isn’t one of them.     Having an open scholly going into a season and it being reported that IU  knowing passed on guys that could have helped isn’t one of them either.    I’m still shocked IU purposely went into a season where their primary ball handler only played 9 games the year before because of injury and his backup would be a true freshman.   Margin of error was made ridiculously small to start out the season.   But like you i will watch every minute of it and live and die on each play each game

Amen

Nice to see you back. Pretty much agree with most all of the points you made in this post. The bolded one is especially spot on IMO.

That's the story that will determine our year. It's clearly the philosophy of our staff (which I don't at all take issue with necessarily)

I'm fairly concerned at this point because all those factors have not shown much potential/consistency yet this year.

That + the fact our offensive efficiency right now is #127 and trending down badly in past 3 games, suggests to me that even if we:

  • Control the pace of the game/limit their number of possessions
  • Hit our FTs at a decent - but not great - clip on average volume
  • Take the same amount of FG and convert them at the same rate or slightly better rate

...We may not be able to do enough to overcome the fact that 3 > 2.

Agree our analytics can be improved in other ways than shooting 3ps, but our D is not good enough for our offense to not give itself more upside potential in terms of points per possession. I'm no expert in stats but this is just my armchair opinion.

I know one thing... beat KU tomorrow and all the analytics look a hell of a lot better.I don't give a darn how we do it. Get it done IU!

If we lose you all can blame me I will be at the game tomorrow I'm suppose to wear something white since that is the section color I'm in.

I feel like we have a better chance just knowing you’ll be there. Go Hoosiers!!

I like the new usps!
The fact is you are absolutely right it is frustrating. I am hoping iu can step up tomorrow and give a good game. I think the beginning of the auburn game was the iu we all want to see. They got open looks at the 3 and they went in. If they get open looks and it's the right guys they should absolutely shoot them. We don't run any plays to get the 3 look imo. If mm and Gabe get a look they need to shoot it. If gallo gets a look he needs to shoot and hopefully make it lol. Let's go!!!

I just read that Kansas ranks 320th in three-point attempts. I bet their message boards are even worse than ours.

They don’t shoot much, but they hit them at a high rate. It’s fairly similar to how we were last year. We shot a good percentage on low attempts thanks to Kopp, Galloway, JHS and Bates.

Our problem this year is low attempts and low percentage of makes.

If he feels like I have the last two days he would have trouble playing big minutes tomorrow

Mack in particular, X when he's back, Trey (struggling but can't just forget last season, he should start to hit better), Ware

Trey’s career three point averages are:

freshman…..18%

soph….21.4%

junior….46.2 % (good year but ended with him scoring 12 points total, playing116 minutes, in the last 4 games - 2 BTT 2-NCAA)

senior (9 games)….13.6%

Can’t forget last season but was last season an indicator of how he can shoot or an outlier ?

Unfortunately the later we get in the season the more I think last year was just an outlier. It's not like he was much of a FT shooter even last year and that's the easiest shot in the game.
