Coach Curt Cignetti to INDIANA

Recommended Posts

Right, a consultant. He’s not an official member of the Saints.
I reiterate, he’ll never coach in the NFL as long as Goodell is in charge.
I am curious though if Goodell has the power to keep a team from hiring someone? I mean the Raiders fired him not Goodell

Realistic expectations for IU football?  Look to Kentucky.  Located in a small population basketball state without a rich football tradition.  Forced to compete in the SEC against perennial football powers.  Two conference championships in the history of the program.

How well have they done?  Over the last 10 years they are 71-54 but only 34-46 in the SEC.  Most Indiana fans would probably be happy with that.  Unless a miracle happens that would probably be our ceiling.

At least the east and west divisions in the Big10 will be gone next year.  Hard to recruit kids when you play Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State every year.  Hey, kid! Come to IU to play football and get a sterling education.  After losing to the "Big" three we only have to finish 6-3 in the other 9 games for a chance to play in the Toilet Bowl.

Next year everything improves.  We now get an opportunity to lock horns with USC, UCLA, Washington and Oregon.  But we won't need to play all the Big 3 monsters every year.  We get to mix in several of the Big 4 new monsters.  Lucky us.

To get to a bowl every year it just had to win their 3 cupcake games and win 33% of their conference games. That's it

Have you heard if there’s any chance we may just take the whole program and ‘chuck it’?

One rumor definitely made me ‘chuckle’…but fixing this program won’t be child’s play.

I’m just hopeful we make a serious hire this time and get some buzz around the program.

^^Exactly one week before the Purdue game there was this exchange.^^

Y’all keep paying attention to BtownBanners posts. Because there’s some real live stuff that pops into this board’s threads.

Not saying this is a done thing, but if you read carefully it’s been a potential thing for a while.

You just know this sort of thing is good for the board traffic. And I'm here for it!

I’m talking after the fact. He ended any and all chances of ever coaching in the NFL when he tried (unsuccessfully) suing both Goodell and NFL.

There was a long article....can't remember whether it was SI or ESPN......about this well after the firing occurred.  Seemed Goodell was in constant contact with the Raiders asking them repeatedly what they were 'going to do about the Gruden situation'.  Think that the Raiders took the message as they had better take care of the situation or it was going to get worse.

Yeah. Gruden technically “resigned” but part of his resignation included a settlement from the Raiders as Gruden was still owed over $40 million.

Those are the kind of tweets I hate....if you have something to say, say it.  Name names.  Name a sport, for chrissakes.

Could that be about the $3 million ‘appearing’ for NIL. They may be implying that something was keeping that money from coming out while Allen was coaching.

That was my first thought. I don’t think it’s worth overthinking random tweets.

If it makes anyone feel better, I knew people would be upset with the new hire right when Allen got fired.

There is nothing to overthink about on a random tweet like that because it didn’t provide an ounce of info.  I gathered nothing from it and am not even going to begin trying to connect anything with it.

We all just need to go to bed. I’m sure we will get a @Chris007 bomb dropped in the morning. Until then…. Be nice to one another and hope IUFB has a pulse in 2024 and beyond.

I was under the impression we no longer had to love each other now that Tom Allen is gone.

I'm sure someone will give Gruden a second chance, but I don't see that someone being IU.  His emails would be a bridge (or two) too far for IU.

A name like that could give the program a jolt though, especially if he can bring good coordinators.

With IU's history, if they were able to draw a big name coach then he'd have baggage. If Jackson's tweet was about the coaching hire I think we'll hear reports soon.
