If they don’t care why do the end zone projects?  Why enclose the stadium? Why give TA a crazy extension?  You could probably say we don’t care enough but you can’t say they don’t care at all.

Right. They just having been good at caring effectively in addition to not enough. They overpaid Allen so they were willing to spend money just not in a smart fashion.

I’m wondering if Fitzgerald is now a serious candidate and if the search committee approves a deeper background check because his history that Pamela would sign off on it.

If the info I’m getting is correct she said no to this.

Would be a good awful hire and a continued lack of taking Indiana football serious

IMO, hiring one of these firms is really a move that an AD makes to "CYA" as they say.

Usually an AD will have a short list already in mind, I doubt this firm is going out and finding us the best possible coach/putting forth recommendations/due diligence on anyone other than who their client at the University (Dolson) tells them he wants them to.

From Dolson's perspective - if the coach works out, great, everyone's happy. If the coach sucks and we have to pay $15.5M to get rid of him and the Board says "What the hell is going on Scotty?" He can say "but but but... the experts agreed so-and-so was the best choice!"

Of course, timing is all about optics. You don't want it to publicly look like you already had your guy lined up before you officially got rid of TA. So you announce you've engaged a firm, who at this point is (IMO) likely doing background checks/dotting the i's and crossing the t's on a deal that's been tentatively agreed to where - for instance, salary is confirmed but incentives on performance are being negotiated.

Then you announce whenever you find most opportune to grab headlines... or avoid them, depending which fish we've landed, lol. That's just my hunch! We'll see.

So, while different transgressions, Gruden would be clearly a no too right? I know you said he was not in the list but following logic on the No would seemingly eliminate him too.

I’m guessing so. I’ve never heard his name mentioned by anyone with the university, just by boosters.

Probably worth it to hire a search firm. Not sure anyone at IU knows how to hire a good football coach.

No f'ing way.  The Bears hire search firms to find GMs and Coaches and always end up with piles of hot chit.  Better off throwing darts.

There is no history of success because the university doesn't care about football. If that's not obvious, I don't know what to say. While I agree with your premise of laying the foundation and all of that, it is a moot point if the university doesn't make football every bit the priority that basketball has historically been. It really is as simple as that. What coach of any stature would WANT to come here given the lackadaisical support that this program has had? Answer? Nobody. That's why you get the names we've had, and will continue to have. Football is the bastard stepchild, and until the powers that be decide to change that mentality, nothing else matters.

So in what SPECIFIC ways does the university not support the football program?  Like someone asked above -- what support to CTA lack between 2019/2020 and 2022/2023.  And if you're going to give me "facilities" what specifically are we lacking (acknowledging full well that Mellencamp pavilion is due for an update).
