Coach Curt Cignetti to INDIANA

Recommended Posts

Why would IU want to even entertain Fitz?  He was a mediocre coach at best playing in the awful west of the B1G and he has baggage. All of the allegations are pretty bad, even if they aren't true, there is enough "smoke" for other coaches to use it against him during recruiting.    I'm pretty sure Tom Allen could have had the same success in the West.  9 winning seasons, and twice first in the West, one of which was a COVID year.  So basically we'd be buying out a mediocre coach to get another mediocre coach with baggage  At least Tom Allen was a stand up guy.

Northwestern started playing football in 1882. Fitz took over in 2006. Northwestern made six bowl during that span. Fitz made 10 bowl games between 2006 and 2022. He won at least six games in 11 seasons. He had three 10 win seasons and two other 9 win seasons. He won 5 bowl games.
Sure he fizzled out in his last four seasons, but he won at least six games in 10 of 12 years before his last four seasons. 9 bowl games in 12 years (IU has played 13 bowl games in our entire history). At freaking Northwestern. If you’re thumbing your nose at him, who would you be happy with? Dude would be a grand slam hire for IUFB.

Using 2006 data to argue for a 2023 hire is pointless. The college football landscape has changed and he did not adapt with it.
Fitz would be a dribbler to the mound hire.

Indiana should have just had Knight coach basketball and football throughout the 70s and 80s. Bet our history would look way different in football.

In somewhat seriousness...

I like the thoughts of Frye, Moore, Hartline.

I find Gruden ridiculous.

I find Orgeron the absolute most hilarious thing ever. Ragin' Cajun in BTown.

Frank Reich just got fired who says no

Pete Carroll was fired by two NFL teams before becoming a star at Southern Cal. Frank Reich — come on down!

He led two of the greatest comebacks in football history. Let’s start that coaching comeback in B-town. Lol!

Right.  Nothing like looking at the whole record.

At TOLEDO!!!!

Six bowl games at Toledo!

And he's currently got his team ranked #23 in the whole freaking country... AT TOLEDO!!!

I think I’d be pleased with Candle but Toledo has a pretty strong history for a MAC school. The question is can he level up or does he Archie Miller in a bigger job?

Coach changes/firings/buyouts etc most accurately buyouts because of the amount of money person losing job gets.  It does extend AD and President of university/s time another 4 or 5 years.

And I like IU president because of her presence regarding IU women basketball, football and other sports at IU.
(Glass, Dolson, and Pamela Whitten have all been supportive of T.Moren (deserved) and IU women basketball program) (again deserved).

Chances are whoever we hire will have a worse resume than Fitz..

Watched a couple of his press conferences yesterday. Pretty impressive guy. Very, very no nonsense. Gave direct answers to questions, though that’s certainly easier when you’re winning.

Side note: there’s a video from a couple of Notre Dame schmucks breaking him down as a solid candidate for their OFENSIVE COORDINATOR. It takes a special kind of privilege to think a successful guy who’s trending up is dying to take a step backwards to work for you. But, they did do a nice breakdown of his offense.

Apples to oranges likely but Sean Lewis went from Kent State HC to OC at Colorado

Totally different landscape now then in the times before the late 1999's.  It used to be very difficult to get into a bowl game.  There were not many bowl games and you actually had to be good.  Now you win 6 games and you are bowl eligible.
