Jalen Hood-Schifino - LA Lakers

Recommended Posts

Per Shams Charania: “The Los Angeles Lakers are declining guard Jalen Hood-Schifino’s third-year team option worth $4 million for 2025-26. This makes the 21-year-old, 6-foot-5 guard an unrestricted free agent in offseason and creates roster flexibility for Lakers.”

Good! Get as far away from the Lakers as possible.

Was a terrible place for him to get drafted to. But he shouldn't have left Indiana. He wasn't ready.

I'm not sure there was much reason for him to return to IU, especially drafted #17 overall.  Unfortunately, injuries haven't helped him at all.

Tbh the “team” around JHS did a great job to get him drafted at 17. He wasn’t there yet in my opinion. Wasn’t explosive enough nor, a consistent shot maker to go at that level. Also his handle isn’t bad but it’s not elite so he’s not the ideal PG.

Seems like an awesome and focused kid. Glad he got paid, but now he’s got to earn it.

Had he returned the narrative on Woody might be slightly different because he would have helped last years team a lot. (Which is precisely why the staff sucked in the portal because that team needed a combo guard in the worst way). And I held on to hope we’d get Antonio Reeves.

Happy for Him!! The fact he is in South Bay and Bronny is up with the Lakers is a joke! JHS is 10 times the player Bronny is...........

I wouldn't consider being drafted #17 a reason to leave. He could have came back and been drafted #17 or higher.

What will he end up with after that first contract?  $7.5 mil?  That's all the reason I would need, but maybe that's just me.

Yeah tend to agree. He was not ready for the NBA, but hard to turn down that money. He could have dropped after an extra year and not received guaranteed contract.

I'm rooting for JHS, and injuries certainly have robbed him of development time. But right now he is a G league player until he develops shot making/creating. Seems like a great kid, and I hope he works hard on his game. He will always be beloved for his time here, especially torching the Boilers in Mackey.

The Lakers are a great spot for guards to develop (Caruso, Reaves, Knecht is already getting rotation minutes). JHS just isn’t very good. He isn’t a good shooter and has bad athleticism. He was drafted on potential/physical measurements but that only gets you so far.
