There was no scrimmage and no way to tell who will be effective on the court against opponents.

The primary very few takeaways I could get are that X and Holmes looked 100% healthy, and Bargesser’s shot looked 100% better.

My takeaways(though I watched on TV)

- Hoosier Hysteria is not what it once was. Kinda boring and watered down.

- No scrimmage really sucks.

- New formats for 3pt contest is poop and has been poop for as long as they've done it.

- Skills Challenge was neat.

- Anthony Leal was the only real winner of the night after having the best moment of the night.

- Real losers are the fans.

- Garzon can light it up.

- Scalia can light it up.

- Holmes is going to be a 3pt threat.

- Mgbakos shot is effortless.

It was a typo.
And that vid of Cupps lighting it up is no accident.

God bless it, Gabe Cupps’ shot form is exactly the same on every one of those 25 three pointers. Even when the ball cart nearly runs into him on the right side.

The kid has always been known as a fantastic decision maker/low turnover player, even against the highest level AAU competition. He has also been known as an incredibly hard worker. Clearly his shot has received so much of his hard work and is now hard-wired. And that will translate to live game action, to road environments, to Gabe Cupps being a hell of an interesting player.

Was indeed a typo. And Cupps caught fire. Shot reminds me of a slower Hulls.

You don't become the most profitable athletic department by buying ball racks.

I wouldn’t go as far as saying the  real losers are the fans.   Tonight provides an opportunity for some fans that wouldn’t otherwise be able to go to games an opportunity to sit and experience some basketball activities.   Over the years I have sat by fans that you could tell were overjoyed just being in the building.    It’s also a blast for families with little ones a chance to wear the candy stripes and create a family moment.   It could be the worst product on the court ever and as long as my kids want to dress up in candy stripes I will put my stripes on and head down.    You have little ones so I would recommend making the trip one year. I promise while you might be bored out of your mind lookIng to the left and right and seeing your kids joy will make you want to come back the next year

I would say the lack of a scrimmage makes the experience less than optimal.

At this point, it's more worth just going to a women's game. Tickets are cheap and you get a great game. Took my oldest to the Ohio State game last season. Hard to beat a Big Ten game for $20.

For old fans that want to watch as much of IU basketball as possible and any little meaningless scrimmage wets their appetite I would agree.    For the recruits this event is targeted for I would say they are probably glad they didn’t do one.   Young kids like mean didn’t need to watch one.    I’ve seen enough of them to know you are not going to learn anything of importance from them that if they have one great but it they don’t not really a big deal.

Might be some families that can’t afford that so a free admission is their only option but I agree a women’s game is great fun for the family.   As their popularity grows those 20 tickets might be a thing of the past

Also might not of had enough bodies healthy for a scrimmage that didn’t include all the walk on.  Sounded like a long list of minor injuries for the scholarship players.

I watched it on YouTube last night and it looked like very little excitement in the building. It was boring to watch

I get that. Which is why taking out the scrimmage makes it even worse. It was basically just a "hey look, here's the team. Now go home."

 

And if we don't have enough healthy bodies, that's a whole other conversation because that sounds like a big problem heading into the season.

They haven't done the scrimmage since Woodson been here.
