Grace Berger - Indiana Fever

Recommended Posts

Lexie Hull:  played in all 28 games, started 22, averaging 21 mpg, shotting 37/22/74 after shooting 27/19/90 last year and has 30 assists to 30 turnovers.

Grace Burger:  12 mpg,  shooting 44/45/84, 39 assists to 22 turnovers.

Make this make sense.

I think she’s earning her way to more minutes as a rookie, tons of confidence in her, but her averages aren’t apples to apples, she’s not starting, playing consistently against the other teams’ best in extended minutes.
Regardless, she’s showing she deserves floor time and in a way that helps the team.

Very few decisions coming from that organization make sense anymore. I love that Grace is getting to play locally, but the Fever management is a clownshow and a half.

Isn't that "organization" just the same as the Pacers for all intents and purposes? Simon is the owner. So not sure why it's been such a "sh*t show there. But they seem to be getting better, but are still playing zero defense. Much like this draft,  the next draft will be huge for them.

To be fair, they've had horrible luck in the lottery until this year, when they finally got to pick #1 for the first time ever. There were two years recently where they had the best odds of picking #1, and one of those years they wound up picking third. It can be tough to rebuild when teams that win more games than you are getting to draft better players.

But I have no idea what their thought process is anymore. They had the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 10th picks in last year's draft. They cut the 4th pick in training camp this year and traded the 10th pick for a 30-year-old center who's given them nothing since joining the team. This year marked the third straight season where they had a first round pick who didn't even make it two years with the team.

It's not hard to see why they've been so bad. They're either drafting the wrong players or giving up on them far too early.

Definitely scouting has been bad. I understand there isn't the draft depth in the WNBA and there are very limited spots each year, but you'd think they'd be able to find at least rotational players if not starters drafting that high the past few years. Hopefully they get the top pick again this year.

Grace with 12 points off the bench today as the Fever win 83-80.

Best game she’s played that I’ve watched. Boston was out late with a thumb. Grace played the entire 4th and scored 6 in the qtr, including a couple of very aggressive takes when they were struggling to score. Held up defensively, which has been a bit of an issue against better guards. And it certainly helped that Kristy Wallace went all Steph Curry and made something like 6 or 7 3’s, including 2 huge ones late. Fun game.

I'm presuming this is just to fill the void before the 23-24 WNBA season starts.

Grace Berger (@grace_berger34) has signed with Lointek Gernika Bizkaia (@GKesb) of the Liga Femenina de Baloncesto, the top tier league in Spain.

Yup. A lot of them do. Just not a bunch of money in the WNBA. But gonna go out on a limb and guess not many of them go back to Russia again.

Per release, “Indiana Fever guard Grace Berger has been added to the roster for the 2024 Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball season. Berger replaces guard Evina Westbrook, who will be inactive for the duration of the 2024 season due to injury.”

This is probably an unpopular opinion but the Fever's smallest problem is Berger not playing. As an IU fan I hope she plays more. As a neutral observer, she is a bench player at best and is the least of the Fever's problems right now.

Their coach is not the best, but benching Caitlin Clark in fourth quarter and her rotations in general are far bigger issues. They have a lot of problems and Berger not seeing the court is one of the many small things. It is more of a microcosm of the coaching mismanagement.

This staff needs to make a ton of changes if they don't want to be shown the door. Not playing Berger is a minor problem in a chain of much bigger issues by the management and no one would even notice if she had played somewhere else.

If the staff fixes everything else and still doesn't play Berger it will not make or break the team as much as we love her hustle and energy. I know IU fans don't want to hear this but its the reality.

However, with the stubbornness and mistakes of the staff in general, they are likely on the way out soon and it has zero to do with their management of Berger.

I agree, I’ve watched all 5 games, we don’t have a great defensive guard and our bigs are not playing to their potential. Rotations have been a mess too.
